Job Description
As manager of the Platform Management team within CMI Engineering, you'll lead the team that keeps our survey platforms running. Your team owns the CMI survey platforms along with the third-party services and contracts that power our data collection process. You'll inherit a high-performing group of 8-10 SREs and engineers with deep expertise in survey and market research platforms. You will serve as the accountable owner for platform reliability.
Responsibilities
- Lead and develop a team of 8-10 SREs and engineers responsible for the availability, performance, and reliability of CMI survey platforms
- Own the operational health of survey data collection systems - uptime, incident response, capacity, and change management
- Ensure platforms meet security, privacy, and data governance requirements (including respondent data handling)
- Manage relationships, contracts, and SLAs with third-party vendors and services that support the data collection pipeline
- Partner with product, data science, and operations stakeholders to align platform roadmaps with survey and panel requirements
- Plan and prioritize work across run-the-business support and platform modernization
- Work directly with Operations to manage budget and vendor spend for platform tooling and third-party services
- Hire, coach, and grow engineers; conduct performance reviews and career development planning
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related field - or equivalent practical experience
- 12+ years of overall experience in Software Engineering
- 7+ years in software, infrastructure, or platform engineering roles
- Experience operating within budget ownership and annual planning cycles
- Ability to lead distributed or hybrid teams across time zones
- 3+ years managing technical teams (SRE, DevOps, platform, or infrastructure engineering)
- Strong background in site reliability or platform engineering: monitoring/observability, incident management, CI/CD, infrastructure-as-code
- Cloud platform experience (AWS, Azure, or GCP)
- Vendor and contract management - negotiating, evaluating, and holding third parties to SLAs
- Proven ability to balance operational stability with delivery of platform improvements
- Clear communication with both engineering teams and non-technical business stakeholders
- Experience managing production systems that support business-critical data flows
Preferred Skills & Experience
- Experience with survey, panel, or market research platforms (e.g., Unicom Intelligence, Qualtrics, Decipher, Confirmit, or comparable)
- Familiarity with data collection pipelines and data quality controls
- Background supporting global, multi-region operations
- Experience driving platform migrations or consolidation efforts
