Principal System Safety Analyst

Roles and Responsibilities:

• Develops and deliver analyses to assist in the development of the agency safety policy planning process and supports the development of agency safety organizational goals and objectives.
• Review and analyze information, through current agency safety programs and all related internal policies as well as external guidance
• Develops reports, plans, data analysis and presentations for timely and thorough assessment of agency safety policy issues
• Develops policy recommendations and issue analysis supported with relevant organization and industry data trends for consideration by Deputy Chief Safety Policy
• Monitors and reviews regulatory updates including but not limited to federal register notices, policy updates etc. relevant to all agency safety management units and assist in the development of applicable responses and notifications
• Tracks and maintains all agency safety management policies to ensure well-informed decision making.
• Supports the Duty Chief Safety Policy in development of trackers, tools and templates for successful management of agency safety audits, inspections and reviews.
• Maintains library of policies and procedures for all agency safety management groups
• Tracks and maintains timeline and schedule of agency safety federal and state audits and inspections
• Completes any other projects as assigned by the Sr. Deputy Chief Safety Policy

Education, Experience and Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Statistics, Business Management, Information Systems, Safety, or similar field (Master’s Degree preferred)
• Must have minimum of four (4) years of experience in data reporting and trend analysis.

Knowledge and Skills:

• Knowledge of NJT safety rules, policies and procedures and applicable Federal, State and Local safety regulations, including Federal Transit Administration (FTA), Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), and Public Employees Occupational Safety and Health (PEOSH) is required.
• Must be highly proficient in the use of software including MS Excel, Word, and Power Point.
• Must be able to create and maintain databases and develop reports as required.
• Ability to multi-task and work closely with various NJT departments and strong verbal and written communication skills are required.
• Knowledge of NJT safety rules, policies and procedures and applicable regulatory safety requirements.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:

• OSHA 30 Hour Standards in General Industry Training - Desirable
• OSHA Recordkeeping Training- Desirable
• Transit Bus and/or Rail System Safety, and SMS Principles for Transit Certification-Desirable Transportation and Security Program Certificate (TSSP - Transit Bus and/or Rail Program) - Desirable
• World Safety Organization (WSO), Certified Safety Manager (WSO-CSM) -Desirable
