Who we are
We are looking for an experienced Senior Java & Kafka Engineer to join a team building modern, cloud-based, data-driven applications and real-time streaming solutions. We are particularly interested in engineers who sit at the intersection of backend software engineering and data streaming.
The right profile should be comfortable writing substantial Java business logic, while also understanding how applications interact through Kafka-based asynchronous and event-driven architectures.
This is not a pure DevOps role. The position involves hands-on software engineering and the development of business logic using Java, rather than focusing primarily on infrastructure management, CI/CD pipelines, or platform operations.
At the same time, this is more than a traditional Backend Java role. The focus goes beyond standard REST/CRUD applications, with a strong emphasis on event-driven architectures, real-time data processing, Kafka-based integrations, and cloud-native solutions running on AWS.
The ideal candidate has a strong Java engineering background combined with practical experience designing and implementing solutions using Apache Kafka. Experience with Confluent Kafka / Confluent Platform is highly desirable but not mandatory.
What you'll be doing
- Design, develop, and maintain Java-based applications and services supporting data-driven business processes
- Build and evolve event-driven and real-time data streaming architectures using Apache Kafka
- Develop Kafka producers, consumers, event-processing components, and integration services
- Design reliable and scalable communication patterns between distributed systems
- Build cloud-native solutions and deploy/integrate applications within AWS environments
- Implement business logic around asynchronous events and streaming data
- Ensure solutions are scalable, resilient, maintainable, and production-ready
- Troubleshoot application, integration, and data-streaming issues across distributed environments
- Contribute to technical design and architectural discussions around Java, Kafka, AWS, and event-driven systems
- Collaborate with software engineers, architects, DevOps/cloud engineers, and other technical stakeholders
- Apply software engineering best practices, including automated testing, code reviews, observability, and CI/CD
What you'll bring along
- BSc/MSc in Computer Science or related field
- Minimum 6-8+ years of experience
- Strong hands-on experience with Java and modern Java development
- Solid experience with Apache Kafka in production environments
- Good understanding of: Kafka producers and consumers; topics and partitions; consumer groups and offsets; event-driven architecture; asynchronous processing; failure handling and resiliency
- Experience designing or developing distributed, event-driven systems
- Practical experience with AWS and cloud-based application environments
- Experience developing APIs and integration services
- Good understanding of microservices and distributed application architectures
- Experience with automated testing, Git, CI/CD, and modern software engineering practices
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Nice to Have:
- Experience with Confluent Kafka / Confluent Platform
- Experience with Kafka Streams
- Experience with Schema Registry and Avro or similar serialization approaches
- Experience with AWS services commonly used within event-driven/cloud-native architectures
- Infrastructure-as-Code experience, such as Terraform
- Containerization and orchestration experience with Docker and Kubernetes
- Knowledge of monitoring and observability for distributed systems
