Working Student (f/m/d) CAD Design, CAM & 3D Printing for System Demonstrators

The System Innovation team works on forward-looking projects with national and international partners from industry and academia. We develop system demonstrators that bring new technologies to life and make complex concepts tangible. In this working student role, you can transfer what you learn at university into practical applications at NXP. You will contribute to real prototypes, gain hands-on experience and further develop your CAD, CAM, 3D-printing and problem-solving skills with support from an interdisciplinary team.

A role designed for learning: We are not looking for a fully experienced professional. A good foundation and first practical experience are important, while curiosity, willingness to learn and a hands-on mindset are equally valuable.

What You Will Work On and Learn

• Apply CAD principles from your studies by creating and adapting 3D models for demonstrator components, housings, brackets, fixtures and mechanical interfaces.
• Gain initial experience with basic CAM workflows, such as preparing simple toolpaths and understanding how digital designs are translated into manufacturing steps.
• Learn how to translate sketches, technical requirements and existing concepts into practical, manufacturable designs.
• Build experience in preparing models for 3D printing, including print orientation, tolerances, material selection and slicing settings.
• Develop confidence in operating 3D printers, assessing print quality and solving common printing issues.
• Gain hands-on experience in post-processing printed parts and assembling them with electronic and mechanical components.
• Improve designs step by step based on test results, usability feedback and integration constraints.
• Learn good practices for maintaining CAD and CAM files, design versions and concise build documentation.

What You Bring

• You are enrolled in mechanical engineering, mechatronics, product design, industrial design, robotics or a comparable technical field.
• You have a basic understanding of 3D CAD design and have already created models through university projects, personal projects, previous student work or similar activities.
• You have first hands-on experience with 3D printing and are familiar with the basic workflow from a digital model to a printed part.
• You have used Autodesk Fusion 360, Autodesk Inventor or a similar CAD tool. You do not need to be an expert, but you should be comfortable with the fundamentals and motivated to improve.
• First exposure to CAM, for example through university, personal or workshop projects, is beneficial. Basic experience is sufficient, and you will have the opportunity to develop it further in practice.
• You enjoy building, testing and improving physical prototypes and are comfortable working with tools and components.
• You are curious, proactive and willing to ask questions, learn from feedback and gradually take ownership of tasks.
• You have good English communication skills; German is beneficial.
