At Peregrine Advisors, you will own the technical design and delivery of a defined application or solution area. But we hire people, not seats. As the work evolves, you will learn new systems and tools, take on greater responsibility, and help develop the firm's capabilities, tools, and lines of business. We move our best to where the hardest problems are.
This is a full-time W-2 position with a salary of $150,000 to $170,000 per year. It is a hybrid work arrangement based in the Washington, DC metropolitan area, and the commuting cadence varies by assignment. The initial engagement requires United States citizenship and the ability to obtain a Public Trust determination.
We are a data and technology innovation hub and a Benefit Corporation working at the center of the federal government's mission to deliver for client stakeholders and the US public.
Your first project
Your first project will likely have you making the design decisions that connect a solution's components and carrying the result through production. Depending on the assignment, you may:
- Design how the components of an application or solution area fit together, then guide their implementation.
- Build cloud-native systems whose automated operation replaces manual process.
- Build and maintain the delivery path itself, the pipelines and automated tests, rather than merely using them.
- Set the pattern for development assisted by artificial intelligence (AI), including tools such as Amazon Q Developer.
You deliver an integrated solution whose parts work together and hold one quality bar. You automate the validations and workflows that used to live in a spreadsheet, and you build the developers around you through the way you work.
This is where you start, not the shape of your career here.
Requirements
- At least seven years of software development experience
- Bachelor's degree
- Expert-level command of Python
- Strong hands-on experience with cloud-native development on Amazon Web Services (AWS)
- Proficiency with modern languages and frameworks, and with continuous integration and continuous delivery (CI/CD)
- Experience with automated testing and secure coding
- Ability to own the technical design and delivery of an application or solution area, including component design, integration, and delivery through production.
- Basic proficiency in writing, PowerPoint, and Excel
Preferred
- An Amazon Web Services certification
- Serverless and event-driven development experience
- Federal information technology experience
- Familiarity with AI-assisted developer tooling
Who you are
You take personal ownership of what you build, and you spend real time making the developers around you better, through code review, through explaining your reasoning, and through the standard you set. Hard calls come to you because you make them well. When priorities shift, you keep the team steady and productive. You communicate clearly, adapt across roles and clients, and care about creating public value. You experiment, learn from failure, and try again quickly. You would rather own an outcome than simply be given a task.
What you bring
- Deep command of modern cloud development, with the range to develop something new or improve what already runs.
- Strong delivery habits in version control, automated testing, code review, secure coding, and accessibility, with the standing to set those habits for a team.
- The judgment to choose among competing solution approaches, resolve design tradeoffs across components, and take responsibility for the technical direction of your assigned area.
- The ability to explain your work plainly to the people who depend on it and to listen carefully to what they need.
- Precision in work where accuracy and auditability are not optional.
You adapt your development workflow as AI tools evolve, using them to help implement, test, and improve the components you own. You give the tools clear context, review and test their output, and remain accountable for the code you deliver.
When we talk
Be prepared to discuss a difficult problem you worked through, the decisions you made, what happened, and what you learned.
