At Peregrine Advisors, you will own the queries, stored procedures, views, and logical data models for your assigned part of a federal agency's enterprise data platform. But we hire people, not seats. As the work evolves, you will learn new systems and tools, take on greater responsibility, and help develop the firm's capabilities, tools, and lines of business. We move our best to where the hardest problems are.
This is a full-time W-2 position with a salary of $120,000 to $140,000 per year. It is a hybrid work arrangement based in the Washington, DC metropolitan area, and the commuting cadence varies by assignment. The initial engagement requires United States citizenship and the ability to obtain a Public Trust determination.
We are a data and technology innovation hub and a Benefit Corporation working at the center of the federal government's mission to deliver for client stakeholders and the US public.
Your first project
Your first project will likely have you taking responsibility for the accuracy and performance of your assigned components. Depending on the assignment, you may:
- Build Structured Query Language (SQL) queries, stored procedures, and views in Amazon Aurora (PostgreSQL-compatible).
- Work across DynamoDB, Amazon Simple Storage Service (S3), and Apache Iceberg tables.
- Design logical data models and database schemas for your assigned components.
- Tune queries and build S3 data loads and connectivity under governed access.
You deliver database components accurate and fast enough that analysts and systems trust them. You automate the loads and checks that used to be run by hand, and you build models that keep the relational and platform stores working together.
This is where you start, not the shape of your career here.
Requirements
- At least four years of database development experience
- Bachelor's degree
- SQL on Amazon Aurora (PostgreSQL-compatible), working with DynamoDB, S3, and Apache Iceberg tables
- Stored procedures, views, and query tuning
- Data loading from S3 into the platform stores, plus Open Database Connectivity (ODBC) and Java Database Connectivity (JDBC)
- Logical data modeling and database-design decisions for assigned components within an established platform architecture
- Basic proficiency in writing, PowerPoint, and Excel
Preferred
- Physical-design ownership of Aurora and Iceberg stores, or the drive to grow into it
- Access governed by Apache Ranger
- Federal information technology or high-volume transaction experience
- Familiarity with artificial intelligence (AI)-assisted developer tooling
Who you are
You enjoy building with SQL and take responsibility for getting data right. You can take a database problem from design through delivery and stand behind how your work performs. You experiment, learn from failure, and try again quickly. You would rather own an outcome than simply be given a task.
What you bring
- Solid SQL on a modern relational platform, Amazon Aurora (PostgreSQL-compatible), with stored procedures and views that hold up in use.
- Practical skill in query tuning, data loading, and connectivity, with version control and clean delivery.
- Practical experience developing logical data models and database schemas, and making physical-design decisions for assigned components within the established platform architecture.
- The ability to own assigned database work from design through maintenance, with sound judgment where accuracy and auditability are not optional.
You adapt your development workflow as AI tools evolve, using them to help implement, test, and improve the components you own. You give the tools clear context, review and test their output, and remain accountable for the code you deliver.
When we talk
Be prepared to discuss a difficult problem you worked through, the decisions you made, what happened, and what you learned.

What we commit to
