Headquartered in Seattle, Washington, OpenTrain AI is a specialized freelance talent marketplace and human-in-the-loop data solutions platform. Founded in 2022, the company connects artificial intelligence developers and machine learning teams with vetted global AI trainers, subject-matter experts, and data labelers. The platform supports workflows across natural language processing (NLP), computer vision, audio transcription, and RLHF (Reinforcement Learning from Human Feedback), integrating directly with third-party data annotation tools while managing global contractor compliance, quality assurance, and international payments.
  • $50-$100 per hour equivalent, paid per accepted task
  • 100% remote
  • Part-time
  • Under 20 hours a week, you choose when

Work on the cutting edge of AI, on your own schedule, and get paid for the software engineering expertise you already have.

The AI systems everyone is talking about are trained and tested by real software engineers. The teams building them need engineers who can create realistic coding tasks, judge how well the AI handles them, write the solution a strong engineer would give, and explain exactly where the AI falls short. Your judgment becomes part of how the next generation of AI models writes and evaluates code. This is that work, done remotely around your current job.

What you'll do

  • Develop and refine features in established open source codebases
  • Diagnose complex bugs and write efficient solutions to difficult coding problems
  • Review proposed changes by checking their behavior, output consistency, maintainability, and engineering quality
  • Refactor and speed up older code, then document your design decisions and reasoning in clear technical notes

Why this is worth your time

  • Get paid the equivalent of $50-$100 an hour to build real AI skills, on top of your current job
  • Work directly with frontier AI coding tools and see how they are built, tested and improved, experience most software engineers will not have for years
  • Build a career edge for what comes next: AI is reshaping software engineering, and the engineers who understand it from the inside will lead that change
  • Fully remote and flexible, no fixed shifts, no commute

Who this is for

  • Professional fluency in English
  • Use at least two of these languages at an expert level: Python, C++, Java, Rust, TypeScript, Go or C#
  • Extensive open source experience; communicate clearly in writing and speech and exercise sound judgment when reviewing code
  • No AI experience needed. You bring the expertise; your judgment helps improve AI models.

Pay and details

  • $50-$100 per hour equivalent; pay is per accepted task, as an independent contractor
  • Under 20 hours a week, you choose when; fully remote, United States
