A company that focuses on building reliable, high-performing software solutions while continuously improving product quality, operational efficiency and the overall user experience is seeking skilled Senior Developers to join its engineering team in Durban. The successful candidates will contribute to the development and maintenance of software applications, identify opportunities for improvement, and deliver reliable, high-quality solutions aligned with business requirements.

 

Purpose of the Role

To design, develop, test, maintain and support quality software in accordance with agreed specifications, technical standards and best practices. The Senior Developers will work collaboratively with technical leads, senior developers, QA and DevOps teams to deliver software solutions, resolve technical issues and contribute to ongoing product optimisation.

The role requires a strong hands-on development background, sound problem-solving abilities and a commitment to software quality, continuous improvement and effective teamwork.

Key Responsibilities

Software Development and Maintenance

• Develop, enhance and maintain software applications in line with business requirements and agreed specifications.
• Contribute to software design decisions, following established architecture, design patterns and development standards.
• Develop and maintain backend services and APIs using C# and .NET technologies.
• Contribute to frontend development where required, particularly using React and TypeScript.
• Estimate development tasks in collaboration with technical leads and other team members.
• Deliver software changes within agreed timelines while maintaining quality, performance and functionality.
• Maintain accurate technical documentation relating to software design, implementation and changes.

Software Quality and Testing

• Take responsibility for the quality and reliability of developed software.
• Write and maintain automated tests to validate functionality and prevent regressions.
• Test all changes thoroughly to ensure that existing functionality continues to work as expected.
• Collaborate with QA teams to ensure test plans cover the required functionality and scenarios.
• Identify, investigate and resolve software defects in accordance with established quality standards.
• Participate in code reviews and apply feedback to improve code quality and maintainability.

System Optimisation and Continuous Improvement

• Identify opportunities to improve application performance, efficiency, reliability and maintainability.
• Investigate existing functionality and recommend practical improvements that deliver measurable business value.
• Contribute to improving development processes, coding standards and technical practices.
• Apply appropriate software design patterns and engineering principles when developing or modifying applications.
• Consider the impact of technical decisions on system performance, scalability and operational costs.

Production Support and Troubleshooting

• Assist with investigating and resolving production incidents and application-related issues.
• Identify the scope and potential impact of technical problems and communicate risks promptly.
• Work with relevant technical teams to implement effective solutions and minimise disruption.
• Investigate recurring defects and contribute to preventative measures.
• Provide timely updates on support issues and maintain appropriate technical documentation.

Teamwork and Collaboration

• Work closely with technical leads, developers, QA and DevOps teams throughout the software development lifecycle.
• Communicate progress, technical challenges, risks and dependencies effectively.
• Share knowledge and contribute to a collaborative engineering environment.
• Participate in technical discussions, planning sessions and code reviews.
• Support less experienced team members where appropriate and contribute to a culture of continuous learning.

Deployment and Operational Practices

• Collaborate with DevOps teams to prepare and hand over software for deployment.
• Work within established development and CI/CD processes.
• Understand the importance of monitoring, logging, system reliability and production performance.
• Follow established security, documentation and release management practices.

Essential Requirements:

• Matric essential
• Tertiary qualifications advantageous
• At least 5 years of relevant work experience
• Strong hands-on experience in software development using C# and .NET.
• Good understanding of software development lifecycle (SDLC) principles.
• Knowledge of software design patterns, object-oriented programming and sound coding practices.
• Experience developing and maintaining APIs and backend applications.
• Experience troubleshooting software defects and resolving technical issues.
• Understanding of software testing, quality assurance and version control.
• Ability to analyse requirements, solve problems and deliver quality software within agreed deadlines.

Preferred / Advantageous

• Experience with .NET 8 and ASP.NET Core Web API.
• Familiarity with React and TypeScript.
• Experience with Entity Framework Core (EF Core).
• Experience with PostgreSQL and SQL databases.
• Exposure to AWS, particularly AWS RDS.
• Familiarity with Kubernetes, Amazon EKS and Helm.
• Experience with Azure DevOps pipelines and CI/CD practices.
• Exposure to CloudWatch, Loki and Grafana for monitoring and troubleshooting.
• Experience working with distributed applications or complex software systems.

Basic salary of R 65 000.00 - R 115 000.00 per month, plus company benefits.
