Tech stack of PBT Group

PBT Group is looking for experienced Mainframe Developers to join our team in Cape Town on a hybrid contract basis.

We are looking for developers with strong COBOL and DB2 experience who have solid hands-on experience within mainframe environments and are comfortable working across the development lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, maintain and enhance applications within a mainframe environment.

  • Design, code, test and implement solutions using COBOL and DB2.

  • Analyse business and technical requirements and translate these into effective technical solutions.

  • Perform application enhancements, maintenance and troubleshooting.

  • Develop and optimise DB2 queries and database solutions.

  • Investigate and resolve production issues and system defects.

  • Participate in code reviews, testing and quality assurance activities.

  • Collaborate with technical teams, business stakeholders and other delivery teams.

  • Produce and maintain technical documentation.

  • Support continuous improvement and ensure solutions align with development and architectural standards.

Key Requirements

  • Proven experience as a Mainframe Developer.

  • Strong hands-on COBOL development experience.

  • Strong DB2 experience.

  • Solid understanding of mainframe development environments and SDLC processes.

  • Experience with application maintenance, enhancements and production support.

  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.

  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a development team.

  • Good communication and stakeholder engagement skills.

Advantageous

  • Experience with additional mainframe technologies and tools.

  • Experience within financial services or other large enterprise environments.

  • Exposure to Agile delivery methodologies.

  • Relevant IT qualification.
