Head Internal Audit and Control

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct periodic audits and operational reviews across Finance, Operations, Credit, Marketing, Risk Management, Human Resources, Administration, and other departments.
• Verify that transactions are properly initiated, reviewed, approved, documented, and processed within delegated authority limits.
• Review loan applications, approvals, disbursements, repayments, restructurings, reversals, interest calculations, and other adjustments to ensure accuracy and compliance with approved terms.
• Confirm that loan disbursements are made only after the required approvals and to authorized beneficiaries and bank accounts.
• Review bank reconciliations, general ledger postings, account balances, Core Banking Application records, investment transactions, borrowings, payments, vendor transactions, expenses, procurement records, and supporting documentation.
• Investigate discrepancies, unusual transactions, suspense balances, unresolved reconciling items, unauthorized payments, duplicate transactions, incorrect postings, and deviations from approved procedures.
• Monitor compliance with CBN requirements, applicable laws, regulatory directives, KYC requirements, anti-money laundering and counter-terrorist financing controls, and other compliance obligations.
• Evaluate internal controls, segregation of duties, user access rights, transaction limits, system controls, and adherence to approved procedures.
• Identify operational, financial, compliance, and fraud risks and recommend practical mitigation measures.
• Investigate suspected fraud, financial irregularities, policy violations, and control breaches while maintaining confidentiality, objectivity, and proper documentation.
• Prepare evidence-based audit reports highlighting findings, risks, control weaknesses, and corrective recommendations.
• Maintain an audit issues register, follow up on agreed actions, verify implementation, and escalate overdue or high-risk issues.
• Support external audits, regulatory examinations, and other independent reviews.
• Review and recommend improvements to policies, procedures, standard operating procedures, and control frameworks.
• Promote accountability, transparency, compliance, and continuous improvement while providing control guidance without assuming responsibility for operational activities .
