WELDING ROBOT PROGRAMMER - Pretoria East

A leading South African automotive manufacturing company specializing in the production of high-quality metal components and assemblies for local and international vehicle manufacturers. Reports to: Operations Director

• Diploma or Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Welding Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering preferred
• 5–8 years' experience in robotic welding programming within a manufacturing environment.
• Proven hands-on experience programming Panasonic welding robots 
• Strong understanding of MIG/MAG welding processes and welding parameters.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, welding symbols, and technical specifications.
• Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
• Experience in continuous improvement and production optimization initiatives.

The Senior Panasonic Welding Robot Programmer will be responsible for the development, programming, optimization, and continuous improvement of robotic welding systems to ensure maximum production efficiency, weld quality, and equipment reliability. The successful candidate will focus on reducing cycle times, optimizing robot movements, minimizing downtime, and improving overall welding process performance.

• Develop, write, and implement Panasonic robotic welding programs from scratch.
• Optimize robot travel paths to eliminate non-value-added movement and improve cycle times.
• Analyze and continuously improve welding sequences for maximum throughput.
• Modify and refine existing programs to enhance efficiency and weld consistency.
• Reduce cycle times and improve throughput.
• Minimize downtime through proactive troubleshooting and programming improvements.
• Set and adjust welding parameters including voltage, amperage, wire feed speed, and gas flow rates.
• Ensure correct parameter selection for materials and joint configurations.
• Diagnose and resolve robotic welding faults.
• Support continuous improvement initiatives.
