Purpose / Project Description

The Junior Product Developer will support the Sprout Platform to provide technical support to the Sprout Team and partners, updating and evolving the Digital Weather Advisory Service (DWAS), and prototyping additional services.

Consultant Activities

The Consultant will work closely with the Sprout and Agrifin technical team members to support both designs in the implementation of the identified features of the Sprout Platform with the Mercy Corps AgriFin team and external partners. The JPDE will lead the project team on the Sprout Platform chatbot and digital services MVP. These services will be built upon the existing platform, capabilities, and offers:

The Junior Product Developer will work on the following activities:

1. Support Sprout Platform

1. Provide technical support to the Sprout team and partners, addressing inquiries, troubleshooting issues, and implementing effective solutions to enhance platform performance.

1. Assist in the overall management of the Sprout Platform, ensuring its stability, reliability, and scalability.

1. Provide customer support for internal and external users.

1. Support the updating and evolution Digital Weather Advisory Services (DWAS)

1. Contributing to the ongoing improvement of DWAS generally and specifically for Kenya and Senegal including supporting implementation of the core platform update and features in line b below.

1. Work with identified partners such as weather service providers, to define and implement new features on DWAS

1. Add features to the service based on project priorities, internal team, partner and customer requests.

1. Working with partners to implement the above services.

1. Reporting

1. Collaborating with various partners to collect reporting data, ensuring accuracy and consistency in the information gathered.

1. Analyze and present reporting numbers for donors.

1. Analyzing the reports to derive meaningful insights that inform decision-making, platform enhancements, and growth opportunities.

1. Business development

1. Onboarding FFOs (partners) to use the Sprout platform's data driven and open content

1. Support Business Development events and meetings.

Consultant Deliverables

The consultant will work to produce regular progress reports and activity time logs and any supporting documents /screenshots to proof the achievement of the deliverables below:

1. Support Sprout Platform

1. Provide technical support to the Sprout team and partners, addressing inquiries, troubleshooting issues, and implementing effective solutions to enhance platform performance.

1. Assist in the overall management of the Sprout Platform, ensuring its stability, reliability, and scalability.

1. Provide customer support for internal and external users.

Timeframe / Schedule

The Timeframe will be between December 1st, 2026 – November 30th, 2028.

The Consultant Will Report to

Elias Nure – Agrifin DCSA Director.

The Program Director has the final sign-off on deliverables and invoices.

The Consultant Will Work Closely With

The AgriFin technical team.

Required Experience and Skills

1. 2 - 4 years of experience in the field of Agriculture in a governmental, or non-governmental organization or a reputable international or national organization preferred

1. Experience in backend programming, software development, web development, and database management.

1. Experience in using git and github.

1. Experience designing and implementing SMS, telegram and WhatsApp for Business platforms, Chatbots.

1. Understanding of and work experience of Kenya, Ethiopia, and/or Nigeria’s agricultural sector

1. Excellent Computer, verbal and written communication skills, including report development, writing and editing.

1. Possession of excellent interpersonal skills, high level of proactiveness and self-discipline

1. Experience and ability to work in a multicultural, multinational team

1. Experience with monitoring and evaluation of projects

1. Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills.

1. Demonstrated experience in project management skills.

1. Demonstrated attention to detail, ability to follow procedures, meet deadlines and work independently and cooperatively with team members.
