Role Overview

As a Lead Software Engineer, Platform Services (Back-end Focus) you will serve as a senior technical leader and hands-on individual contributor within the (UIUX)Front-End organisation, with a strong emphasis on back-end services, common platform capabilities, API design, and cloud-native delivery.

This role will spend much of its time designing and implementing back-end services, microservices, and platform capabilities, while collaborating across the full application stack when needed. The primary focus is on designing and building scalable services, APIs, deployment architectures, integration frameworks, and shared platform capabilities that support multiple Protegrity products. While familiarity with modern front-end technologies is valuable, this is not a UI-specialist role.

You will own and evolve shared platform services, APIs, distributed systems, and integration capabilities that enable product interoperability, common platform functionality, cloud-native deployment patterns, and future platform scalability across Protegrity's product portfolio. In addition, working with UIUX Engineers, Architects, DevOps, QA, Product Management, and cross-functional engineering teams.

Success in this role requires strong technical ownership, practical architecture judgment, clean production-grade code, and systems that are reliable, testable, scalable, and maintainable. You should be comfortable working across the full software development lifecycle, from architecture and implementation through testing, deployment, observability, and operational support. While this role partners closely with DevOps its primary focus remains software engineering, platform services, and scalable application architecture.

What You'll Do

• Design and implement microservices that support Protegrity's next-generation UI Shell Platform architecture, ensuring services are secure, scalable, reusable, and aligned to long-term platform strategy.

• Define and influence long-term service architecture, integration patterns, and technical standards across multiple products, helping drive consistency, scalability, and operational excellence throughout the platform.

• Develop production-grade software using Python, JavaScript, and TypeScript, with a strong emphasis on back-end services, APIs, distributed systems, authentication, authorization, and platform capabilities.

• Lead implementation for complex, high-impact systems, balancing performance, scalability, reliability, maintainability, and ease of integration across multiple products.

• Define and improve service integration patterns between front-end and back-end components, ensuring predictable contracts, resilient workflows, and scalable product delivery.

• Partner with front-end engineers to deliver cohesive end-to-end user experiences, contributing to modern UI applications where needed while primarily driving back-end and platform service implementation.

• Build testable, production-grade software with automated test coverage, code quality validation, and CI/CD-driven delivery practices. Contribute to containerized application deployment patterns and collaborate with DevOps teams to ensure reliable, repeatable software delivery.

• Promote reliability, observability, and troubleshooting best practices across platform services, helping teams diagnose issues, improve system visibility, and maintain healthy service operations.

• Identify and reduce friction across build, review, testing, release, and operational workflows to support predictable, repeatable, and lower-stress delivery.

• Apply GenAI and AI-assisted development practices to improve engineering productivity, accelerate workflows, and support new product capabilities where appropriate.

What You'll Need

• 6+ years of professional software engineering experience designing, building, testing, and operating production-grade software systems, with strong expertise in back-end development, API design, distributed systems, microservices, and scalable platform capabilities.

• Demonstrated success designing and evolving platform architectures, including microservices, API ecosystems, service integration patterns, distributed systems, and cloud-native applications that support scalable product growth.

• Strong programming skills in Python and JavaScript/TypeScript, with a proven track record of building high-quality back-end services, APIs, and distributed applications. Working knowledge of modern front-end technologies, including React, HTML5, and CSS, to effectively collaborate across the full application stack.

• Strong computer science and software architecture fundamentals, including data structures, algorithms, system design, distributed systems, integration patterns, scalability considerations, and architecture trade-offs.

• Experience designing and integrating cloud-native applications using technologies such as Docker, Kubernetes, and modern CI/CD pipelines, with the ability to contribute to software delivery while partnering effectively with DevOps and Cloud Engineering teams.

• Experience working across front-end and back-end boundaries, including API contracts, authentication and authorisation, data flows, service dependencies, integration behaviour, and troubleshooting complex multi-service environments.

• Proven technical leadership and collaboration skills, including influencing technical direction, documenting architectural decisions, mentoring peers, driving engineering best practices, and aligning teams around scalable, maintainable solutions.

Nice To Have

• Experience building or supporting shared platform services, common capabilities, or developer tooling used across multiple products and engineering teams.

• Familiarity with public cloud platforms such as AWS and Azure, including deploying and supporting cloud-native applications.

• Experience supporting containerized application delivery using technologies such as Docker, Kubernetes, and Helm.

• Exposure to data security, privacy, compliance, cryptography, or enterprise security-focused products.

• Familiarity with GenAI, LLM-powered product capabilities, AI-assisted development workflows, or agentic engineering tools.

• Experience with observability, monitoring, performance testing, load testing, and production support for distributed systems.

• Working knowledge of code quality, security scanning, artifact management, and software quality platforms such as SonarQube, JFrog Xray, or similar tools.
