The People Manager is a critical strategic partner to the business, operating within Qantas' recently enhanced People operating model that has significantly lifted capability, influence and the impact delivered by our business partnering team. Supporting Qantas Freight, this role partners closely with terminal and operational leaders across Melbourne and Brisbane to shape and deliver people strategies that strengthen leadership capability, improve employee engagement and support a high-performing, safety-focused culture.

Working in a complex operational environment, the People Manager leads and delivers the People plan while coaching leaders, driving organisational effectiveness initiatives and supporting change across a workforce of approximately 400 employees. Partnering with stakeholders across multiple locations and industrial frameworks, this role plays a key part in building leadership capability, enhancing ways of working and creating greater alignment across the Freight operation. As part of a collaborative national People team, you'll also have the opportunity to contribute to broader strategic projects that support the future growth and success of the business.

What you’ll bring to the role:

  • Strong HR business partnering capability with experience in an operational and industrial workforce
  • Demonstrated ability to strategically partner with business in large organisation
  • Proven ability managing change and building organisational capability
  • Strong stakeholder management ability
  • Proven ability to work in a matrixed environment with a geographically dispersed workforce
  • Commercial acumen and proven ability to understand the operation
  • Proven interpersonal and relationship development skills
  • The ability to work autonomously whilst remaining collaborative and considered as a part of a broader team
  • Strong verbal, written and presentation skills with an ability to communicate in both technical and business language
  • Driven to succeed, self-motivated and able to work independently with limited direction or guidance
  • Tertiary qualification in HR/Business related degree or equivalent experience required
