Qualcomm is an American semiconductor and wireless technology company founded in 1985 and headquartered in San Diego, California. It holds foundational patents in CDMA and the 3G, 4G and 5G cellular standards, licensing them to nearly every handset maker in the world, while its chip division designs the Snapdragon platforms that power a large share of Android smartphones, personal computers, wearables and connected cars. The company has been diversifying away from smartphone dependence into automotive digital cockpit and driver assistance systems, industrial internet of things, and on-device AI processing through its Hexagon and Oryon architectures.

Company:

Qualcomm Semiconductor Limited

Job Area:

Engineering Group, Engineering Group > Hardware Applications Engineering

General Summary:

GENERAL SUMMARY:

As a leading technology innovator, Qualcomm pushes the boundaries of what's possible to enable next-generation experiences and drives digital transformation to help create a smarter, connected future for all. As a Qualcomm Hardware Application Engineer, you will provide technical expertise of hardware through training, product demonstrations, and the design, debug, test, and quality support of customer products. In this role, you will also design and develop hardware solutions for Qualcomm IE-IOT SoC platforms, bridging deep technical knowledge with hands-on engineering execution to deliver robust, market-ready products. Qualcomm Hardware Application Engineers collaborate with cross-functional teams to assess the potential application of company products that meet and exceed customer needs.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Design, develop, and evaluate electronic systems for Qualcomm IE-IOT SoC platforms, including Digital and Analog circuits for IoT and industrial computing applications.
  • Develop schematics, PCB layouts, and design reviews; perform component selections and guide PCB layout execution for retail and industrial electronic equipment.
  • Collaborate with internal or third-party manufacturing contacts to fabricate and bring up hardware systems.
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams (mechanical, thermal, SI, PTE, regulatory, validation, manufacturing, etc.) and ODMs for execution of projects from concept to production.
  • Conduct detailed reviews and analysis of designs to ensure implementation meets appropriate power, performance, area, compliance, and cost requirements.
  • Coordinate and perform specialized analyses (e.g., feasibility studies, signal integrity, power integrity) to verify design performance.
  • Test development systems to ensure performance and compliance requirements are met, and support functional validation including issues triage and root cause analysis.
  • Provide technical training for customers and ODMs, including product demonstrations and technical guidance on hardware design.
  • Facilitate consensus on technical trade-offs at hardware, software, and design levels across cross-functional teams.
  • Develop and support customer-specific hardware and system requirements in collaboration with internal teams and ODMs.
  • Prepare and present technical documentation, design reviews, and execution status updates to stakeholders.
  • Resolve architecture and design issues across system and card levels, and contribute to the debug and bring-up of hardware systems.
  • Participate in determining objectives of assignments and plan, schedule, and arrange own activities in accomplishing objectives.

REQUIRED COMPETENCIES:

(All competencies are required upon entry)
