Trainee Consultant - QA

We are looking for a motivated Trainee Consultant with 1-2 years of software experience, strong Java coding skills, and basic knowledge of API testing. This is an 11-month direct contract with Rakuten India. The role is ideal for candidates who want to transition deeper into QA and grow a career in automation and API testing.

Responsibilities:

• Develop, maintain, and run manual and automated API test cases.
• Write clean and maintainable Java code for test automation (frameworks such as TestNG/JUnit preferred).
• Execute functional, integration, and regression testing for APIs and backend services.
• Collaborate with developers, product owners, and QA leads to reproduce, investigate, and resolve defects.
• Create and maintain test data, test plans, and test summary reports.
• Contribute to improving QA processes and test automation coverage.
• Participate in daily stand-ups, sprint planning, and retrospectives in an Agile environment.

Requirements:

• 1 to 2 years of professional software development or QA experience.
• Solid Java programming skills, including OOP concepts and basic debugging.
• Basic experience in API testing (RESTful APIs), using tools like Postman, SOAPUI, or similar.
• Familiarity with writing automated tests using Java-based frameworks (TestNG or JUnit).
• Understanding of HTTP, JSON, status codes, and request/response structures.
• Exposure to version control systems (Git).
• Good problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.

Preferred (but not mandatory):

• Experience with automation frameworks (Selenium WebDriver for UI automation is a plus).
• Familiarity with CI/CD tools (Jenkins/GitHub Actions/GitLab CI).
• Basic knowledge of SQL and relational databases.
• Exposure to Java build tools (Maven/Gradle).
• Familiarity with test management tools (Jira, TestRail, Zephyr).
