Sr. Java Developer

We are seeking an experienced, hands-on Sr. Java Developer for an enterprise contract opportunity based in Brampton, ON. In this role, you will take on a key backend software engineering, cloud-native application architecture, and systems integration capacity, specializing in designing, developing, and deploying resilient services and data processing pipelines.

Operating within a hybrid model in Brampton, you will bridge the gap between technical system specifications, modern microservices architectures, and distributed data systems. You will lead the development of secure REST APIs and batch processing jobs using Java, Spring Boot, and Spring Batch, while orchestrating cloud-native workloads across Google Cloud Platform (GCP) and Google Kubernetes Engine (GKE). This position demands a seasoned development professional with deep expertise in PostgreSQL database development, enterprise messaging brokers (such as Kafka or ActiveMQ), containerized environments, and cloud infrastructure integration to build high-performance, mission-critical applications.

Responsibilities
Design, develop, test, and deploy scalable, secure, and resilient backend microservices and RESTful APIs using Java and Spring Boot.

Architect and implement robust, high-volume batch processing workflows and automated data pipelines utilizing Spring Batch.

Build, deploy, and manage containerized cloud-native applications on Google Cloud Platform (GCP), utilizing Google Kubernetes Engine (GKE) and Cloud Storage.

Design, optimize, and maintain relational data models, complex queries, stored procedures, and indexing strategies in PostgreSQL and Cloud SQL.

Implement asynchronous, event-driven architectures and integration services utilizing messaging solutions such as Google Cloud Pub/Sub, Apache Kafka, or ActiveMQ.

Configure, maintain, and monitor containerized services using Docker and Kubernetes to ensure high availability and scalability.

Diagnose, troubleshoot, and resolve complex application bugs, integration timeouts, and system performance bottlenecks across development and production environments.

Ensure application security, data integrity, and compliance standards are rigorously maintained across all deployed services and endpoints.

Participate actively in Agile sprint ceremonies, technical design reviews, peer code reviews, and architectural planning discussions.

Produce and maintain clear technical designs, API documentation, interface specifications, and operational runbooks.

Qualifications
Core Technical & Application Development Requirements
Java Development: Extensive hands-on experience in backend software engineering with Java, object-oriented design, and design patterns.

Spring Ecosystem: Strong demonstrated proficiency in Spring Boot, Spring Batch, Spring Data, and microservices architecture patterns.

API Architecture: Proven track record designing, building, securing, and documenting high-performance RESTful APIs and web services.

Google Cloud Platform (GCP): Direct practical experience developing and deploying applications on GCP, specifically GKE, Pub/Sub, Cloud SQL, and Cloud Storage.

Containerization & Orchestration: Solid expertise in container technologies (Docker) and container orchestration using Kubernetes (GKE).

Database & SQL: Strong background in PostgreSQL database design, complex SQL query authoring, schema optimization, and performance tuning.

Enterprise Messaging: Practical experience integrating distributed messaging platforms such as Apache Kafka, ActiveMQ, or cloud-native equivalents.

Soft Skills & Delivery Attributes
Analytical Problem Solving: Superior diagnostic and technical design capabilities to isolate complex system defects and optimize distributed workflows.
