Rio Tinto is a mining group founded in 1873 when investors bought a copper mine in southern Spain, and it now operates as a dual-listed company with corporate offices in London and Melbourne. Its largest business by far is iron ore from the Pilbara region of Western Australia, an integrated system of mines, rail and ports that supplies Chinese steelmaking, followed by aluminium, copper from Oyu Tolgoi in Mongolia and Kennecott in Utah, and industrial minerals including borates and titanium dioxide. The group has moved into battery materials through lithium assets in Argentina and the acquisition of Arcadium, while working to decarbonise aluminium smelting.

Lead Rio Tinto’s global speak-up, triage and investigations framework, protecting trust through independent, fair and rigorous decision-making.

Shape a more focused, risk-based myVoice model and influence governance, technology, insight and remediation across a complex global organisation.

London based

We’re Finding Better Ways™ to provide materials the world needs, now and in the future. Our values - care, courage and curiosity - guide how we work and how we treat each other.

About the role

We are looking for a General Manager, myVoice to lead Rio Tinto’s confidential, independently operated speak-up and whistleblowing programme within Ethics & Compliance. In this role, you will safeguard accessible reporting, fair and timely assessment, independent handling of matters, non-retaliation and trusted reporting to senior management and the Board. You will guide the programme through a transition to a more focused, risk-based model while protecting continuity, independence and confidence in myVoice.

What you’ll be doing

Reporting to the Chief Ethics & Compliance Officer and working within the global Ethics & Compliance function, you will:

  • Lead the end-to-end myVoice governance framework, covering report intake, triage, investigation management, closure and insight reporting.
  • Ensure investigations are objective, thorough, people-centred and trauma-informed, and meet applicable whistleblower and regulatory requirements.
  • Strengthen investigation quality, methodology and governance while engaging specialist expertise for complex, sensitive and high-risk matters.
  • Use case data, analytics and root cause analysis to identify systemic risks, control gaps and practical remediation priorities.
  • Provide clear, insight-led reporting to senior management and the Board, supporting accountability, transparency and informed risk decisions.
  • Partner with People, Legal, Security, Group Internal Audit, Information Systems & Technology, Procurement and business leaders on programme delivery, reporter protection and corrective actions.
  • Own the myVoice platform, workflows, data and vendor services, deploying approved automation and artificial intelligence with human verification and appropriate controls.
  • Lead and develop a globally distributed team, building a culture of independence, care, professional courage, quality and continuous improvement.

About you

We’re looking for someone whose experience aligns with the key requirements below. You do not need to meet every “helpful for success” item to apply, if you bring relevant experience and are excited by the opportunity, we encourage you to submit an application.

Required for Success

A commitment to the safety and wellbeing of yourself, your team and people participating in myVoice processes.

  • Qualifications: A law degree or equivalent, together with a recognised legal qualification.
  • Experience: At least 15 years of relevant experience gained through private practice and/or senior legal, ethics, compliance or related leadership roles in complex global organisations.
  • Leadership: Senior leadership experience in corporate investigations, speak-up or whistleblowing, employee relations or another high-trust function within a multinational organisation.
  • Investigations and regulation: Demonstrated experience leading complex, sensitive and high-risk matters, including investigations, multi-jurisdictional regulatory issues and litigation-related matters.
  • Executive influence: Experience reporting to and advising senior leaders, exercising independent judgement and handling confidential information in ambiguous or high-risk situations.

Helpful for Success

  • Experience working constructively with regulators or enforcement authorities, with exposure to bodies such as the Serious Fraud Office, Australian Federal Police, Securities and Exchange Commission, Department of Justice, Australian Securities and Investments Commission or Financial Conduct Authority.
  • Knowledge of people-centred and trauma-informed investigation practices and whistleblower protection requirements.
  • Experience leading global teams and operating effectively across regions and time zones.
  • Experience using case management technology, analytics, automation or artificial intelligence to improve triage, investigation management and insight.

What we offer

Be recognised for your contribution, your thinking and your hard work, and go home knowing you’ve helped the world progress.

  • A work environment where safety is always the number one priority
  • A permanent position working directly for Rio Tinto
  • A competitive base salary reflective of your skills and experience, with an annual incentive program
