We are seeking an experienced Senior Software Engineer with a deep background in 3D computer graphics and engine development to join the ML Data Pod within the Foundation AI team. In this role, you will build the foundational infrastructure that powers our next-generation AI capabilities.

As the AI landscape rapidly shifts toward spatial and 3D generation, high-quality data has become the ultimate bottleneck. You will be instrumental in solving this challenge by unlocking the Roblox engine as a massive, scalable platform for synthetic data generation. 

This is a unique opportunity to bridge the gap between cutting-edge AI research and low-level engine architecture. You will be navigating unmapped territory-shaping how we represent and structure complex 3D data (such as meshes, materials, lighting, and scene graphs) to effectively train state-of-the-art 3DGen models. Ultimately, the synthetic pipelines you architect will directly fuel the frontier AI models that will define the future of immersive 3D content creation for millions of creators worldwide.

Responsibilities

• Synthetic Data Generation: Spearhead initiatives to leverage the Roblox engine to procedurally generate the massive, high-fidelity 3D datasets required for training frontier 3DGen models.
• Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner closely with AI research scientists to translate complex model training requirements into actionable engine features, while collaborating with core engine teams to implement them safely and efficiently.
• Pipeline Architecture: Design, build, and optimize scalable graphics and engine-level systems capable of generating diverse spatial, geometric, and visual data at scale.
• Technical Integration: Drive the technical direction for embedding synthetic data generation workflows into the existing engine architecture without compromising core performance.

Minimum Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience building and shipping complex, production-grade software systems
• Deep expertise in 3D computer graphics, rendering pipelines, and game engine architecture.
• Strong proficiency in systems programming (e.g., C++) with a proven track record of writing highly optimized, scalable code.
• Experience extracting, modifying, or manipulating programmatic data from within a complex engine environment.
• Strong communication skills with a demonstrated ability to bridge the gap between machine learning researchers and low-level systems engineers.
• Bonus: Familiarity with machine learning data pipelines, automated synthetic data generation, or 3D generative AI architectures.

Preferred Qualifications

• Background in geometry, linear algebra, or related mathematical domains
• Experience with graphics APIs or frameworks a plus but not required

For roles that are based at our headquarters in San Mateo, CA: The starting base pay for this position is as shown below. The actual base pay is dependent upon a variety of job-related factors such as professional background, training, work experience, location, business needs and market demand. Therefore, in some circumstances, the actual salary could fall outside of this expected range. This pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future. All full-time employees are also eligible for equity compensation and for benefits as described on this page.

Annual Salary Range

$227,370—$295,250 USD

Roles that are based in an office are onsite Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, with optional presence on Monday and Friday (unless otherwise noted).
