Senior Backend Engineer

Join an AI services company's product engineering team to build and scale mission-critical software for a leading global pharmaceutical client. You will take end-to-end ownership of backend features, collaborate directly with client stakeholders across distributed teams, and drive technical decisions.

Responsibilities:

• Design, build, and maintain scalable backend services and APIs.
• Own the full feature lifecycle from requirements and design through deployment and monitoring.
• Architect and manage AWS cloud infrastructure, prioritising security, reliability, and cost best practices.
• Collaborate directly with client stakeholders through stand-ups, planning, and reviews, including some time zone overlap.
• Drive technical decisions, enforce engineering standards, and conduct code reviews.
• Troubleshoot production issues and continuously improve system performance and reliability.

Requirements:

• 5+ years of professional software engineering experience with a strong backend focus.
• 2+ years of hands-on AWS experience with: EC2 ECS, Lambda, S3 RDS, API Gateway, CloudWatch.
• Strong proficiency in at least one backend language: TypeScript, Python, Java, Node.js, Go.
• Solid understanding of: SQL/NoSQL databases, REST APIs, Microservices architecture.
• Hands-on experience with Docker and containerised deployments.
• Proven track record of building and shipping complete products, not just isolated features.
• Experience collaborating directly with clients or distributed teams across time zones.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Nice to Have:

• Domain experience in healthcare, pharma, or other regulated industries.
• Exposure to AI/ML-powered products or services.
• Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure-as-code, including Terraform or CloudFormation.
• Comfort working international hours.
• Prior experience working with Australia/New Zealand clients is a plus.
