Through digital transformation and smart grid technologies, the organization helps businesses and consumers achieve sustainable, reliable, and energy-efficient operations worldwide.

Role purpose: Lead the end-to-end industrialization and launch of the India manufacturing operation, then own safe, compliant, cost-effective and reliable manufacturing performance through stabilization and continuous improvement.

The Project Manager is accountable for translating approved business requirements into a production-ready facility, covering project governance, plant layout, equipment installation, process industrialization, quality readiness, workforce ramp-up, supply-chain coordination and operational handover. After launch, the role leads day-to-day manufacturing delivery across safety, quality, delivery, cost, people and sustainability. The position partners with Plant Leadership, Engineering, Quality, EHS, Supply Chain, Procurement, Finance, HR, Facilities, IT, Legal, customers, suppliers and authorities.

What will you do?

Project Governance & Execution

  • Own the integrated project plan from scope definition through design, procurement, construction interface, installation, commissioning, qualification, production launch and formal closeout.
  • Establish the work breakdown structure, milestones, budget baseline, resource plan, risk and issue register, change-control process, governance cadence and executive reporting.
  • Drive cross-functional accountability for actions, decisions, dependencies and recovery plans; escalate safety, compliance, cost, quality or schedule risks early.
  • Coordinate internal teams, consultants, contractors, equipment suppliers and service providers, ensuring clear deliverables, acceptance criteria and document control.
  • Manage capital expenditure forecasts, commitments, cash flow, purchase requirements, variation orders and project financial performance with Finance and Procurement.
  • Ensure lessons learned, punch-list closure, warranties, training records, as-built documents, spare-parts lists and ownership transfer are completed before project closure.

Manufacturing System Design & Industrialization

  • Lead manufacturing concept development, make-versus-buy inputs, capacity modelling, line balancing, takt and cycle-time validation, material flow, storage strategy and plant layout.
  • Coordinate process design, equipment specifications, design reviews, supplier technical alignment, factory/site acceptance testing, installation and commissioning.
  • Ensure production processes are designed for safety, quality, ergonomics, maintainability, serviceability, energy efficiency and scalable output.
  • Drive readiness of bills of process, standard work, control plans, work instructions, tooling, gauges, fixtures, maintenance plans, calibration and operator certification.
  • Lead prototype, pilot and ramp-up builds; track yield, throughput, scrap, downtime, bottlenecks and corrective actions until stable serial production is achieved.
  • Coordinate product and process change implementation with Engineering, Quality, Supply Chain and customers, including traceability and configuration control.

Manufacturing Operations Leadership

  • Own daily production execution against the operating plan, including safety, quality, delivery, cost, inventory, productivity and customer-service commitments.
  • Establish tiered daily management, visual performance boards, escalation routines, shift handovers and structured problem-solving.
  • Lead production, manufacturing engineering and related operational teams directly or through functional leaders, with clear goals, role clarity and capability development.
  • Drive overall equipment effectiveness, line utilization, labour productivity, schedule adherence, first-pass yield, scrap reduction and conversion-cost improvement.
  • Coordinate preventive maintenance, planned shutdowns, critical-spares strategy and equipment reliability with Maintenance and Facilities.
  • Implement Lean manufacturing, 5S, standard work, root-cause analysis, Kaizen and other continuous-improvement methods appropriate to site maturity.

Quality, EHS & Regulatory Readiness

  • Ensure manufacturing controls support applicable customer, product, process and quality-management requirements, including nonconformance control, corrective action and change management.
  • Partner with Quality to prepare process capability evidence, inspection and test readiness, measurement-system controls, supplier quality inputs and customer approvals where required.
  • Embed risk assessment, machine safety, lockout/tagout, permit-to-work, contractor control, emergency preparedness, incident reporting and safe operating procedures into project and production activities.
  • Maintain project and operational compliance evidence for applicable factory, occupational safety, environmental, fire, electrical, building, labour and local authority requirements in India.
  • Coordinate with EHS, Facilities, HR and Legal to maintain a site-specific legal register, permits, licences, inspections, statutory records, renewals and corrective actions.
  • Support audit readiness for government authorities, customers and corporate systems, including ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 45001 and ISO 50001 where adopted by the site.

Supply Chain, Supplier & Stakeholder Management

  • Align production capacity and ramp-up with demand, inventory policy, material availability, localization plans and SIOP requirements.
  • Partner with Procurement and Supplier Quality on supplier selection, industrial readiness, recovery actions, cost, lead time, incoming quality and continuity risks.
  • Coordinate logistics flows, packaging, warehousing, line-side replenishment, inbound/outbound readiness and inventory accuracy.
  • Maintain effective engagement with customers, global engineering teams, leadership, authorities, industrial-estate representatives, utilities and strategic suppliers.
  • Provide concise, fact-based project and operations updates, including decisions required, forecast impacts, recovery plans and accountable owners.

People, Organization & Capability Building

  • Define the manufacturing organization, staffing curve, shift model, competency matrix and training plan with HR and functional leaders.
  • Recruit, onboard, coach and develop the production organization; establish expectations for safety leadership, quality ownership, teamwork and disciplined execution.
  • Ensure operators, technicians, engineers and contractors are trained and authorized before performing assigned work.
  • Build a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, respectful communication and timely escalation.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial, Manufacturing, Production Engineering or a related discipline; a postgraduate qualification in operations or project management is an advantage.
  • 10+ years of progressive experience in manufacturing, industrialization, operations or plant projects, including leadership of a significant greenfield, brownfield, transfer or capacity-expansion program.
  • At least 5 years in a manufacturing leadership role with accountability for production performance, people, cost and cross-functional delivery.
  • Demonstrated experience managing capital projects, integrated schedules, budgets, contractors, equipment suppliers, commissioning, ramp-up and handover.
  • Strong understanding of production systems, process engineering, Lean manufacturing, quality controls, maintenance interfaces, capacity planning and material flow.
  • Working knowledge of Indian manufacturing compliance and state-specific implementation, with the ability to coordinate effectively with EHS, Legal, Facilities and authorities.
  • Experience with ERP/MRP systems and project-planning tools; competence in data-based performance management and executive reporting.
  • Strong commercial judgment, negotiation, problem-solving, decision-making, stakeholder management and escalation skills.
  • Fluent English communication; proficiency in Hindi and/or the relevant local language is preferred.
  • Ability to work on site, support critical launch periods and travel when required.

Preferred Experience

  • Experience with engineered products, HVAC/cooling equipment, industrial equipment, electrical products or another complex assembly environment.
  • Experience with new-site setup in India, localization, supplier development, customer qualification and global-to-local product/process transfer.
  • Project management certification such as PMP or PRINCE2, and Lean/Six Sigma certification, are advantages.
  • Experience supporting ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 45001 and ISO 50001 systems.
