About the role

Join Schneider Electric's Embedded Design team in Victoria, British Columbia, and contribute to the development of advanced power metering solutions, including the ION8700, ION9000, and PM8000 product families.

These sophisticated, highly customizable meters continue to evolve to meet changing customer needs and market requirements. As a Senior Embedded Designer I, you'll develop new firmware features, enhance existing capabilities, and have opportunities to contribute to new generations of meters as these projects emerge.

You'll join a collaborative team where engineers work across both software development and testing, with responsibilities evolving from one project to another. It's an opportunity to bring your technical experience to a range of challenges, work alongside engineers at different stages of their careers, and continue expanding your own expertise.

What you'll be doing

  • Design, develop, test, and enhance embedded firmware features for our advanced power metering solutions.
  • Write and debug code in C and C++, focusing on reliability, performance, and maintainability.
  • Develop and improve automated testing solutions using Python to support more efficient testing.
  • Work across software development and testing, with responsibilities evolving based on projects and technical needs.
  • Participate in design reviews, code reviews, and technical discussions to support engineering decisions and continuous improvement.
  • Investigate and resolve firmware, software, and hardware integration issues, collaborating with colleagues across different technical disciplines.
  • Share your knowledge and experience with teammates, contributing to an environment where engineers collaborate and learn from one another.

What you bring

  • A degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Solid hands-on programming experience, ideally 6 to 10 years, in embedded software, firmware, or a related technical field.
  • Strong C programming, debugging, and problem-solving skills.
  • Practical experience with Python scripting or test automation.
  • A good understanding of software development and testing practices.
  • Clear communication, a collaborative approach, and a genuine interest in learning new technologies.

You might also have

  • Familiarity with C++ or real-time operating systems (RTOS).
  • Knowledge of embedded communication protocols such as UART, SPI, I2C, Ethernet, or TCP/IP.
  • Exposure to system architecture, technical documentation, or performance and reliability analysis.
  • Hands-on practice with Git, code reviews, or Agile/Scrum methodologies.
  • A background in software development closely integrated with hardware.
  • An understanding of industrial automation, power systems, metering, or energy management.
