The Role

We are seeking exceptional interns to join our Quantitative Research team in the Austin metro area.  As an intern, you will work with other researchers and developers on various research projects, including the design of novel predictive signals and the enhancement of our algorithms for prediction, trade execution, portfolio construction, and risk management. You will have an opportunity to meaningfully contribute to multiple areas of our quantitative trading business.

What You’ll Do

As a Quantitative Researcher Intern, you will contribute to our research into predictive trading signals. You will learn how quantitative methods are used to develop and evaluate trading signals. You will develop predictive features and machine learning models, test research hypotheses, and evaluate predictive performance on out-of-sample data. You will have the opportunity to use AI tools to improve your productivity in coding and analysis. Over the 10-week internship program, you will collaborate with senior team members to learn what it takes to be a successful quantitative researcher. Additionally, you’ll network and socialize with colleagues throughout the internship.

What You Need

  • Currently pursuing a bachelor’s, master’s, or doctoral degree in a quantitative or technical field such as statistics, mathematics, physics, electrical engineering, or computer science (ideally with one academic year remaining after the internship)
  • Excellent programming skills in one or more languages such as Python, C, C++, Java, SQL, or R
  • Strong knowledge of probability, statistics, and machine learning techniques.  Knowledge of deep learning or natural language processing is a plus.
  • The ability to communicate research ideas clearly and succinctly
  • Creative problem-solving skills and experience working with real-world datasets
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Previous financial industry experience is a plus but it is not required

Our Internship

Kick-start your career in finance with the Schonfeld Summer Internship! Over the course of 10 action-packed weeks, you will have the opportunity to build solutions that tackle real-world challenges and leave a lasting impact on the firm. As an intern, you’ll join a close-knit team that is ready to support your growth and accelerate your career. We will pair you with a dedicated manager and a mentor who’ll guide your development over the course of the internship and beyond. Throughout the program, you will have the chance to connect with senior leaders through a series of learning sessions, attend hands-on skills workshops, network at social events and get a behind-the-scenes look at how various functions power the firm. We’ll empower you to bring your ideas to life and make an impact.
