Scout24 product teams own their services from development through production. Application Platform provides the shared capabilities that hundreds of engineers across Scout24 and its subsidiaries use to build, release, observe, operate and recover software. As Technical Lead, you will set the platform's technical direction and continue to build and operate software. The team is gathering evidence about the maintenance load and cost of selected in-house systems. It is also running an approved software-delivery proof of concept for Application Platform, Security and authorised agent use. The results will inform any wider move to managed services.This is an individual-contributor role in a department of 12 engineers. You will report to the Head of Application Platform and work with senior engineers, product teams, Product Managers, Engineering Managers and Security.

How your role will look like:

• Shape platform strategy and turn approved decisions into architecture, service interfaces,technical standards and a clear delivery order.
• Lead major initiatives and migrations across team boundaries. Own build-versus-buy analysis and make the technical call, escalating decisions that would change platform strategy to the Head of Application Platform.
• Design and build platform capabilities and automation, including integrations over managed services, our AWS EKS compute platform, and the shared software-delivery path.
• Turn recurring developer needs into secure, reliable APIs and self-service workflows, including machine-usable interfaces for AI agents.
• Set and improve standards for reliability, observability, security, maintainability, and performance.
• Strengthen incident learning and disaster recovery, and share on-call with the engineers who build the platform.
• Work with product teams to test whether shared capabilities meet their needs. 
• Explain platform decisions in technical discussions and mentor engineers across career levels.

What you need to succeed:

• You have worked as a product engineer, building and operating production services end to end,and want to apply that experience to platforms used by other engineers.
• You build production software in Go, TypeScript or Python and can work across unfamiliar codebases.
• You have designed, built, debugged, and operated services on AWS and Kubernetes, including EKS or a comparable Kubernetes environment.
• You can automate infrastructure and software delivery through infrastructure as code, CI/CD, automated testing, and safe rollout and recovery practices. We use AWS CDK; experience with Terraform or Pulumi is equally relevant.
• You can turn developer needs into secure, reliable APIs, automation, and self-service workflows,and have helped teams adopt shared capabilities.
• You have led technical work with no established approach, made architecture and build-versus- buy decisions, and aligned people without formal authority. You communicate trade-offs clearly and mentor engineers across career levels.
• Your SRE experience covers observability, SLIs, SLOs, error budgets, incident learning and recovery. You are willing to join the shared on-call rotation after onboarding.
• Experience leveraging AI tools to drive problem-solving and productivity, maintaining effective human oversight and judgement.
