Principal Software Engineer

Responsibilities:

• Architect, design, and build large-scale, highly available, and distributed systems.
• Define technical architecture, system design principles, and engineering standards across products.
• Lead the design and development of backend services using Node.js, TypeScript, and JavaScript.
• Own and drive architecture decisions for complex products from conception through production.
• Design systems for scalability, reliability, performance, security, and maintainability.
• Work closely with Engineering, Product, Design, DevOps, and other stakeholders to translate business requirements into scalable technical solutions.
• Lead technical discussions around system design, distributed systems, APIs, databases, caching, messaging, and service architecture.
• Identify architectural bottlenecks and drive initiatives to improve system performance, reliability, and scalability.
• Provide technical leadership and mentorship to senior engineers and engineering teams.
• Establish best practices around coding standards, design patterns, testing, observability, and engineering processes.
• Conduct architecture and code reviews and ensure high engineering quality across teams.
• Drive modernization, re-architecture, and migration initiatives where required.
• Evaluate emerging technologies and recommend solutions that provide long-term technical and business value.
• Collaborate with leadership to define and execute the long-term technical roadmap.

Requirements:

• 10+ years of software engineering experience, with significant experience in senior/principal/staff-level roles.
• Strong hands-on expertise in JavaScript, TypeScript, and Node.js .
• Proven experience architecting and scaling products used by large user bases or handling high transaction volumes.
• Strong understanding of system design and distributed systems.
• Experience designing highly available, fault-tolerant, scalable, and resilient architectures.
• Strong knowledge of microservices architecture, RESTful APIs and event-driven systems, distributed systems, caching and database optimization, message queues/streaming systems, authentication and authorization, observability and monitoring, and performance optimization.
• Strong experience with relational and/or NoSQL databases.
• Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, GCP, or Azure.
• Strong understanding of scalability, reliability, latency, availability, and cost optimization.
• Excellent problem-solving and technical decision-making skills.
• Strong communication skills with the ability to influence technical direction across multiple teams.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience building high-scale consumer-facing or enterprise SaaS products.
• Experience with Kubernetes, Docker, and cloud-native architectures.
• Experience with technologies such as Kafka, Redis, Elasticsearch, or similar distributed infrastructure.
• Experience designing event-driven and asynchronous architectures.
• Experience leading large-scale technical migrations or platform modernization initiatives.
• Strong understanding of CI/CD, DevOps, and infrastructure automation.
• Experience working in fast-paced product organizations or high-growth technology companies.
