Siemens is a German technology conglomerate founded in Berlin in 1847 by Werner von Siemens around a telegraph that indicated letters rather than Morse code. After a decade of divestments it now concentrates on industry, infrastructure, transport and healthcare, supplying factory automation and control systems, building and grid technology, trains and signalling, and the Teamcenter and NX design software acquired through a long run of software purchases. The Siemens Xcelerator platform ties hardware to software and digital twins, and the group retains a majority stake in the separately listed medical imaging company Siemens Healthineers.

Position Overview:

Siemens Mobility is seeking an Electrical Engineer to join our Customer Services team in Sacramento, CA. In this role, you will help develop solutions that support our Rolling Stock customers throughout the full lifecycle of their vehicles, including initiatives related to obsolescence, software optimization, product improvements, modifications, and upgrades.

Working in partnership with Product Management and multi-functional engineering teams, you will help collect project requirements driven by customer inquiries, proactive product improvement opportunities, and evolving technical needs.

You will support material specifications, schematic preparation, design development, testing, and solution modifications. This role also includes preparing and clarifying technical information, communicating technical and commercial considerations, and contributing recommendations for new designs, process improvements, or design changes to meet project and customer requirements.

What your day-to-day will look like:

  • Collaborate closely with the electrical engineering team to develop system designs that fulfill project requirements and support reliable, customer-focused solutions.
  • Interpret and create schematics, while performing circuit troubleshooting to identify issues and support timely resolution of technical challenges.
  • Develop concepts and technical functional descriptions for test equipment and systems testing to help validate performance, functionality, and project readiness.
  • Develop equipment- and system-level design documentation that clearly defines technical requirements and supports efficient execution, testing, and maintenance.
  • Provide technical expertise across engineering teams, including mechanical, electrical, and industrial groups, to align designs and support integrated project outcomes.
  • Manage release processes and revision control to maintain accurate design records, ensure version consistency, and support quality-driven project delivery.
  • Monitor industry practices to identify applicable standards and products that can strengthen technical solutions, improve reliability, and support continuous improvement.
  • Review project requirements and develop system concepts and frameworks that establish a clear technical direction and support effective solution development.
  • Support technical bids for maintenance and overhaul projects by contributing engineering input that strengthens proposal accuracy, feasibility, and customer alignment.

This posting outlines the primary responsibilities of the role, but is not all-inclusive; additional duties may be assigned in alignment with business needs.

To thrive in this role, you have:

  • Bachelor’s Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering or related subject area, advanced degree, or equivalent combination of education and experience in the rail industry will be considered.
  • 3+ years’ experience in electrical engineering or related field.
  • Experience with technical specifications and maintaining scope of work.
  • Ability to collaborate with customers and provide clear technical details.

Candidates should be willing to work in non-climate-controlled environments and inclement weather if required or if applicable.

Applicants must be legally authorized for employment in the United States without needing current or future employer-sponsored work authorization.

Purpose is the reason a company exists. It's not about making money or selling products - it's the deeper "why" behind everything we do. It answers the question: What problem are we solving? What positive change are we creating?

For Siemens, our purpose has been clear for over 175 years: We create technology to transform the everyday, for everyone.

The world needs technologies that work. Technologies that matter. Technologies that solve today's challenges and help shape a better tomorrow. And that's exactly what we build. By bringing together the real world (factories, buildings, power grids, trains) with the digital world (software, data, AI, digital twins), we help our customers become more competitive, resilient, and sustainable.

Our technology is everywhere - in trains and transportation, we help move people faster, safer, and more sustainably.
