A Snapshot of Your Day

You will support the Substation business in Australia as part of the Australian Substation team in Sydney within Siemens Energy Grid Technologies’ Asia Pacific division. You will drive the technical delivery and execution of substation and skid solutions, managing projects from design through commissioning while ensuring compliance with Australian standards, customer specifications, schedules, and budgets. Your day will involve coordinating electrical, civil, and structural engineering teams and working closely with customers, local utilities, subcontractors, procurement, logistics, and internal engineering hubs. You will also manage technical risks, project controls, stakeholder interfaces, and reporting to support localized grid connection requirements and the expanding APAC energy transition market.

How You’ll Make an Impact

  • Manage the technical execution of substation skid projects from design through commissioning, ensuring compliance with Australian standards and customer specifications.
  • Coordinate cross-functional electrical, civil, and structural engineering teams to deliver integrated design packages on schedule.
  • Oversee technical risk assessments, design reviews, quality assurance, and commissioning activities for substation equipment and skid assemblies.
  • Serve as the primary technical interface for customers, local utilities, subcontractors, and internal engineering hubs, managing technical clarifications, variations, and approvals with Australian grid operators and regulatory bodies.
  • Collaborate with procurement and logistics teams to support the timely delivery of high-voltage components and structural skids.
  • Develop and maintain technical project schedules, identify critical-path milestones, and establish mitigation plans for project risks.
  • Monitor technical budgets, resource allocation, scope, and change management to help prevent scope creep.
  • Provide regular technical progress reports, risk registers, and performance metrics to APAC leadership.

What You Bring

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a closely related engineering discipline, with 5-8 years of experience in technical project management or engineering leadership specifically within substation projects.
  • Proven experience in the Australian energy sector, including interfacing with local transmission and distribution network service providers (TNSPs/DNSPs).
  • Strong expertise in substation engineering and design, including AIS/GIS and skid-mounted solutions, as well as high-voltage equipment and systems such as transformers, switchgear, protection, and control.
  • Knowledge of Australian electrical standards and utility regulations, including AS/NZS standards and NER requirements.
  • Technical project management expertise covering scheduling, risk management, budget control, contract and scope management, change orders, technical specifications, quality assurance, and commissioning procedures.
  • Strong stakeholder communication, negotiation, cross-functional team leadership, problem-solving, and technical decision-making skills.
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) or AIPM Certified Practising Project Manager (CPPM) certification.
  • Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng) / National Engineering Register (NER) eligibility.
