Senior Java Backend & Integration Engineer

Our client, a leading financial services organisation, is looking for an experienced Senior Java Backend & Integration Engineer to support a large-scale digital transformation programme.

The successful candidate will be responsible for developing and integrating backend services and APIs across digital channels and enterprise platforms, ensuring scalable and reliable solutions.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop and maintain backend applications and services using Java.
• Develop and integrate RESTful APIs across digital channels and enterprise platforms.
• Translate functional and technical requirements into scalable backend solutions.
• Design and implement system integrations between digital applications and backend services.
• Work with architecture and engineering teams to implement appropriate integration patterns.
• Support API-led and event-driven integration solutions.
• Troubleshoot and resolve application, integration and production issues.
• Participate in code reviews and ensure adherence to development standards.
• Work within Agile delivery teams and contribute to continuous improvement.
• Support CI/CD practices and automated software delivery.
• Produce technical documentation for applications, APIs and integrations.
• Ensure solutions comply with enterprise architecture, security and technology standards.
• Support the transition of solutions into production and ongoing technical improvements.

Requirements

• Extensive commercial experience in Java backend development.
• Strong experience developing and integrating REST APIs.
• Proven experience with enterprise systems integration.
• Strong understanding of backend application architecture.
• Experience with API-led integration and integration patterns.
• Experience working with distributed or enterprise-scale systems.
• Experience working within Agile development environments.
• Experience with CI/CD and modern software development practices.
• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
