Smiths Group is a British engineering company founded in 1851 as a London watchmaker, and it has repeatedly reinvented itself, once supplying instruments for most British cars and aircraft before selling those businesses entirely. Today it operates in four areas: security screening equipment for airports and borders, seals and connectors for extreme industrial environments, non-destructive detection and inspection instruments, and specialist electrical connectors for aerospace and defence. Headquartered in London and listed there, it has been under investor pressure to break itself up on the argument that its divisions have little in common.

At Smiths Detection, every minute of every day our technology helps to protect people and critical infrastructure around the world. As part of Smiths Group, we are a global leader in threat detection and security screening, supporting markets including aviation, ports and borders, defence, and urban security. With over 3,000 colleagues across 21 global offices, seven manufacturing sites and five R&D centres, we are united by a shared purpose: making the world a safer place-and creating meaningful careers along the way.

We're entering an exciting new chapter. Following our recent transition to a standalone business, we're building a fresh, engaging and connected employee experience for colleagues across the world.

We're looking for an enthusiastic Internal Communications Coordinator to join our Marketing & Communications team. This is a fantastic opportunity for a communications professional who wants to make a real impact, helping to shape how we communicate our strategy, values, culture and vision across a global organisation.

Working closely with our Internal Communications Manager and wider teams, you'll create compelling content, support employee engagement initiatives and help colleagues stay informed and be inspired during a period of transformation and growth.

  • Creating clear, engaging and impactful communications across a variety of channels including email, intranet, internal social media and video.

  • Supporting the launch and promotion of business strategy, company values and key organisational initiatives.

  • Transforming complex information into simple, engaging messages tailored to different audiences.

  • Coordinating employee engagement activities, events and campaigns across virtual, hybrid and in-person environments.

  • Supporting leadership, HR, Finance, IT and other business functions with internal communication needs.

  • Managing communications projects and ensuring activity is delivered effectively and on schedule.

  • Working with external agencies, designers and creative partners to develop communication materials.

  • Supporting change and transformation communications, helping colleagues understand and engage with business developments.

  • Monitoring engagement metrics and recommending opportunities for continuous improvement.

  • Collaborating with stakeholders around the world.

What We're Looking For

  • 2-4 years' experience in Internal Communications, Corporate Communications, Marketing Communications, Content Creation or a similar role.

  • Strong copywriting, editing and storytelling skills.

  • Experience creating content across a range of digital communication channels.

  • Experience coordinating events, campaigns or employee engagement activities.

  • Experience working with multiple stakeholders and managing competing priorities.

Key Skills & Attributes

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Strong organisational and project coordination abilities.

  • Confident working with stakeholders at all levels, including senior leaders.

  • Ability to simplify complex information into engaging, easy-to-understand communications.

  • Creative mindset with strong attention to detail.

  • Proactive, adaptable and highly organised.

  • Comfortable presenting, facilitating and engaging with employees across the business.

  • Experience using AI tools to support content creation and communication activities.

  • Ability to work effectively across different cultures, regions and time zones.
