Staff Engineer - Backend

As a Staff Engineer - Backend, you will play a critical role in designing and building systems that can scale 10x-100x, while remaining deeply hands-on. You will drive technical excellence, influence architecture decisions, and partner closely with product and engineering teams to deliver scalable, reliable systems.

Responsibilities:

• Design and build scalable backend systems to support rapid growth.
• Own key components/services end-to-end from design to production.
• Contribute to system design discussions and architecture decisions.
• Identify performance bottlenecks and drive scalable solutions.
• Collaborate with senior engineers to define technical direction.
• Write high-quality, maintainable, and production-grade code.
• Conduct code reviews and uphold engineering best practices.
• Mentor junior and mid-level engineers through hands-on guidance.
• Work closely with product managers to translate business needs into technical solutions.
• Collaborate across teams to solve cross-cutting technical problems.
• Drive improvements in system reliability, observability, and performance.
• Take ownership of projects, ensuring timely and high-quality delivery.
• Build and scale high-throughput, distributed fintech systems.
• Contribute to architecture decisions for systems scaling 10x-100x.
• Solve complex challenges across performance, reliability, and security.
• Mentor engineers and elevate overall engineering quality.

Requirements:

• 8-10 years of experience in backend or platform engineering.
• Strong computer science fundamentals.
• Proficiency in backend technologies (Node.js, Java, Go, or similar).
• Experience building and scaling distributed systems in a high-growth environment.
• Hands-on experience with high-traffic or transactional systems (fintech experience is a plus).
• Strong problem-solving skills with a practical and execution-focused mindset.
• Experience with microservices architecture and API design.
• Exposure to cloud platforms (AWS/GCP/Azure) and infrastructure fundamentals.
• Familiarity with system design principles (scalability, fault tolerance, caching, etc. )
• Ability to navigate ambiguity and work in fast-paced environments.

Good to Have:

• Experience with lending/fintech ecosystems.
• Exposure to platform engineering (developer tooling, shared services, internal platforms).
• Understanding of observability, monitoring, and debugging large-scale systems.
