With space organizations, research institutes, institutional and commercial actors as customers, we offer specialist expertise in satellite communications, spacecraft consulting services, rocket and balloon systems, and much more.

SSC Space also has one of the world’s largest global networks of ground stations for satellite communications. We own and operate the Esrange Space Center in Kiruna, northern Sweden, with the aim of launching satellites in the near future.

Are you fueled by a passion for people and the ambition to create an awesome workplace? Are you ready to embark on an exciting journey with us to help Earth benefit from space?

If you answer yes to these questions, we invite you to seize the opportunity to make a significant impact as a Software & Systems Engineer in our team. We are looking for a curious and solution oriented person who shares our core values of Customer passion, Care, Collaboration, Curiosity, and Courage.

As a Software & Systems Engineer within SSC Space’s Orbital Launch and Rocket Test (OLRT) division, you will work across software, IT infrastructure, networks and operational technology. You will develop and integrate solutions used in launch facilities, test infrastructure, automation platforms and mission-critical operational systems.

This is not a traditional software development role. You will work close to both the technology and the operations, collaborating with engineers, IT specialists, suppliers and operational teams. Depending on your experience, the role may also include responsibility for software architecture and technical direction.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, integrate and maintain software-based systems supporting rocket testing, launch facilities and operational activities.
  • Develop and improve system architectures, interfaces, data flows and integration solutions across software, networks, IT infrastructure and operational technology.
  • Support automation, monitoring, control, data acquisition, telemetry and other operational support systems throughout their lifecycle.
  • Lead or contribute to system design, technical investigations, verification, commissioning, troubleshooting and operational readiness activities.
  • Ensure that solutions are reliable, secure and maintainable by contributing to cybersecurity, system hardening, logging, monitoring and incident-response activities.
  • Collaborate with system and infrastructure engineers, operations personnel, enterprise IT, suppliers and customers, while maintaining clear technical documentation and operational procedures.

Requirements

  • A bachelor’s or master’s degree in software, IT or engineering, or equivalent professional experience.
  • Experience developing, integrating or maintaining software-based or networked technical systems.
  • A good understanding of IT environments, including hardware, software, networks, communication protocols and Linux and/or Windows systems.
  • Familiarity with modern software development practices, such as version control, testing, requirements management and technical documentation.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work in English and explain technical matters to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Experience within one or more of the following areas is considered an advantage, but is not required:

  • Software architecture or technical leadership.
  • Industrial automation, PLCs, SCADA or HMI systems.
  • Network architecture, segmentation, routing or switching.
  • Cybersecurity, SecOps, system hardening or monitoring.
  • Databases, APIs, data integration, observability or cloud and hybrid infrastructure.
  • Sensors, instrumentation, edge devices or data acquisition systems.
  • Aerospace, launch systems, mission operations or other operationally critical environments.
Swedish language skills and experience working in Sweden are considered an advantage

Benefits

We offer you
  • A unique opportunity to contribute to a wide range of projects and play an active role in both the Swedish and international space industry.
  • An excellent opportunity for personal and career development.
  • An exciting, international workplace characterized by an open atmosphere and proud employees all over the world.
Additional benefits
  • In addition to vacation and traditional public holidays, we offer extra paid leave throughout the year, such as time off between Christmas and New Year, Ascension Day, amounting to 6-11 extra days depending on the calendar.
  • Wellness allowance of SEK 5,000 per year.
  • Health benefits such as voluntary health insurance and regular health checks for eligible employees.
  • Access to a benefit bike through a tax-efficient leasing program.
  • Support for employee-driven activities that promote connection, health, and culture across teams.
  • Collective Agreement, including good pensions plans, parental pay and insurance.

Location

The position can be based at Esrange Space Center outside Kiruna or at our office in Stockholm. If based in Stockholm, frequent travel to Esrange is required, particularly during testing, commissioning, maintenance activities and launch campaigns.
