SSE

SSE is a FTSE 100 energy company headquartered in Perth, Scotland, that builds and operates electricity networks and low-carbon generation in the UK and Ireland. Its businesses include SSE Renewables, SSE Thermal, SSEN Transmission and SSEN Distribution, SSE Energy Solutions and SSE Airtricity, backed by a fully funded 33 billion pound five-year investment programme in wind, HVDC links and grid upgrades. It hires power system, electrical and civil engineers, HVDC project engineers, trainee linespeople and cable jointers, fitters, unit operators, analysts, finance advisors and graduates.

Base Location: For this role, we require successful applicants to be based from one of our Scottish locations and you'll be expected to spend 50% of your working week in the office - Perth, Glasgow, Aberdeen or Inverness.

Salary: £51,600 - £77,400 + performance-related bonus + a range of benefits to support your finances, wellbeing and family.

Working Pattern: Permanent | Full Time | Flexible First options available.

The role

SSEN Transmission is establishing a new Business Development PMO capability to support the identification, governance and progression of future investment opportunities before they enter formal project development.

As PMO Process Manager, you will play a key role in developing and implementing governance, assurance, information management and business process capabilities that support the emerging Pre-Gate 0 Framework and future Business Development operating model.

Working across strategic programmes, industry reform initiatives, Investment Planning activities and future investment opportunities, you will help design and embed scalable governance and assurance processes that support consistent decision-making, investment readiness and organisational change.

This role combines governance, assurance, process improvement, information management, digital enablement and business readiness. You will help create repeatable ways of working that support both existing commitments and emerging business priorities.

While supporting the development of the new Pre-Gate 0 Framework, the role will continue to provide critical governance and assurance support across existing strategic activities, including Connections Reform, Investment Planning and wider business programmes.

Unlike a traditional PMO role focused solely on project delivery, this role helps create the governance, assurance and operational foundations needed to support future investment decisions and organisational readiness.

You will

  • Lead the design, implementation and continuous improvement of governance, assurance and information management processes supporting future investment opportunities and strategic programmes.
  • Support development and implementation of the emerging Pre-Gate 0 Framework, including governance routes, assurance controls, readiness requirements, operating procedures and information standards.
  • Provide governance and assurance support across Investment Planning activities, including management of obligations, reporting requirements and business readiness activities.
  • Develop and maintain scalable reporting, workflow and information management solutions using Power BI, Power Apps, Power Automate and SharePoint.
  • Lead and develop PMO process capability, supporting Process Leads and Project Information Officers while driving continuous improvement, data quality and governance excellence.

You have

  • Experience leading PMO, governance, assurance, change adoption, business improvement or programme support teams within a complex and multi-disciplinary environment.
  • Strong experience in process design, service development and continuous improvement, with the ability to create scalable and sustainable ways of working.
  • Experience across one or more of the following areas:
    • Governance & Assurance
    • Change Management & Adoption
    • Business Readiness
    • Process Improvement
    • Digital Transformation
    • Information Management
  • Experience developing effective reporting, workflow and governance solutions using Power BI, Power Apps, Power Automate, SharePoint or similar digital platforms.
  • Strong understanding of governance, reporting and assurance, with experience supporting strategic programmes, business transformation or regulatory change and translating business requirements into practical solutions
  • A degree-level or professional qualification, or equivalent relevant experience.

About SSE

SSE’s purpose is to be restless every day until we make electricity clean, affordable and available for all.

We do this by developing, building, operating and investing in electricity infrastructure and businesses needed in the energy transition. This includes electricity transmission and distribution networks, onshore and offshore wind farms, hydro-electric power and flexible thermal generation. We also provide products and services for businesses and other customers.

Our investment plan will see SSE invest £33bn in critical electricity infrastructure to 2030.

SSEN Transmission own and operate the electricity transmission network across the north of Scotland. We transport electricity from where it is generated to where it is needed, ensuring a safe and reliable electricity supply for the communities we serve. But that's not all - we're upgrading the grid to deliver cleaner, homegrown power for the future and building the infrastructure needed for a cleaner electricity system to create secure power for generations to come.
