Headquartered in Tallinn, Estonia, Stargate Hydrogen is a deep-tech clean energy company that develops next-generation alkaline electrolysers and turnkey green hydrogen production solutions. The company manufactures advanced, precious-metal-free electrolyser stacks and modular containerized systems engineered for scalable and cost-effective hydrogen generation. By partnering with utilities and industrial developers, it enables hard-to-abate sectors - such as steelmaking, chemicals, and heavy transport - to accelerate their decarbonization and transition toward a zero-carbon economy.

Role overview:

The Quality Engineer builds and runs the quality assurance processes that keep Stargate's products, processes and quality system reliable, traceable and continually improving. The role makes sure stack drawings define quality requirements that can actually be verified, both externally (by the supplier or a separate service provider) and in-house. It writes QA documentation such as inspection instructions and control plans, and develops the measurement systems used to check parts, including the methods, the gauges and their validation. It plays a key role in First Article Inspection (FAI) of new and changed parts. It leads Incoming Inspection day to day and sets its ongoing priorities, and owns the Feedback to External Providers process. The goal is to prevent defective components from reaching Stargate at all, through clear drawing requirements and strong feedback to suppliers, and to stop any defect that still gets through before assembly or shipment.

About the company:

At Stargate, you will be part of a team determined to change the world. We are passionate about climate, hydrogen and innovation. Our enthusiastic team and pioneering spirit offer the opportunity to devote yourself to work that has a real purpose. We encourage you to think big and outside the box to bring your ideas to life.

As the company is in a scale-up phase, you will be able to shape its structure and processes and have a great deal of responsibility and freedom in your work. The environment is agile, and problems are solved unbureaucratically.

What does the day-to-day look like in this role?

  • Stack drawing reviews: Review Stack component drawings and ensure quality requirements are clearly defined and can be verified with existing or new measuring devices.
  • QA documentation, measurement methods and samples: Compose inspection instructions, guidelines and control plans. Develop measuring methods, select tools and gauges, and perform MSA (e.g., Gage R&R). Manage golden samples and OK/NOK samples.
  • First Article Inspection (FAI): Plan and lead FAI for new and changed parts, including review of supplier FAI reports. Inspect new and revised parts when results are needed for documentation, root cause analysis, drawing approval or supplier feedback.
  • Incoming inspection leadership: Lead incoming inspection and set its priorities. Handle nonconformities (NCRs, quarantine, disposition).
  • Feedback to External Providers: Own the process - analyse supplier quality data, hold regular meetings and follow up corrective actions.
  • QA processes, traceability and improvement: Establish and improve QA processes and control systems that catch defects before assembly and shipment. Ensure traceability of products and materials. Lead cross-functional problem-solving and improvement projects. Contribute to resolving customer claims, including root cause analysis.
  • Contingency coverage: Substitute the Quality Specialist in inspections during absences.

Must-have qualifications and experiences:

  • A strong background in mechanical engineering: a degree in mechanical engineering or a related field (or equivalent experience), plus at least 3 years of experience in quality or mechanical engineering in manufacturing.
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting technical drawings (incl. GD&T), instructions, certificates and measurement reports.
  • Practical metrology skills: using measuring equipment and developing measurement methods for quality inspection.
  • Experience with control plans, FAI, nonconformance handling, root cause analysis and corrective actions (CAR).
  • Working knowledge of ISO 9001 and supplier quality work.
  • Excellent communication skills in English, and the ability to set priorities and guide others.
  • Ability to work with data, with basic knowledge of statistics.
  • Proficiency in MS Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
  • Accurate record-keeping of quality and process data.
  • Strong attention to detail, organisational and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to adapt to frequently changing priorities and work plans.

Nice-to-have qualifications:

  • PFMEA, MSA (e.g., Gage R&R)
  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes: injection molding, CNC metal machining and surface coating.
  • Experience with pressure equipment, welding or electrochemical stacks.
  • Experience conducting internal audits (QMS, production processes, 5S); ISO 9001 internal auditor training.
  • Experience with Business Central ERP, Alldevice and Autodesk Vault.
  • Valid forklift licence.

Personal qualities:

  • Structured and calm under pressure when production is waiting.
  • Clear communicator who can push back on suppliers and colleagues with data.
  • Takes ownership and follows issues through to closure.
