Stashfin is a fintech company building a full suite of accessible, digital-first financial products for a large underserved consumer base in India - including personal loans, a revolving credit line, bill payments, UPI, digital gold, bond investments, credit score tracking, and insurance products. We combine data science, credit-risk modelling, and modern engineering to deliver these products at scale. Our engineering teams own the full lifecycle of high-throughput, high-reliability systems that move real money and serve millions of users across the app.
Role Overview:
We are looking for a Software Engineer with 1-3 years of hands-on experience to join our backend engineering team. You will design, build, and scale services that power our lending and credit platform - working closely with product, data science, and risk teams to ship features that directly impact millions of users. Our preferred stack is Node.js / TypeScript; prior hands-on experience with Python is a plus, but we care more about strong fundamentals and the ability to learn than a specific language.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design, develop, test, and maintain backend services and APIs that power Stashfin's lending and credit products.
- Write clean, well-tested, maintainable code and participate actively in code reviews.
- Work with relational and NoSQL databases to design efficient schemas and queries.
- Build and consume RESTful APIs; contribute to API design decisions.
- Collaborate with product managers, data scientists, and other engineers to translate requirements into technical solutions.
- Debug and resolve production issues, and contribute to improving system reliability, performance, and observability.
- Participate in architecture and design discussions, and contribute to technical documentation.
- Write unit and integration tests, and contribute to CI/CD pipelines.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
- 1-3 years of professional software engineering experience, ideally in backend development.
- Strong fundamentals in data structures, algorithms, and object-oriented design.
- Hands-on experience with Node.js and TypeScript (preferred); experience with any other modern backend language (Python, Java, Go, etc.) is also welcome.
- Working knowledge of relational databases (e.g., MySQL, PostgreSQL) and exposure to NoSQL stores (e.g., MongoDB, Redis).
- Understanding of RESTful API design and microservices concepts.
- Familiarity with Git and collaborative development workflows.
- Good understanding of software testing practices (unit/integration testing).
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work in a fast-paced, ownership-driven environment.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent practical experience).
Good to Have:
- Exposure to cloud platforms (AWS/GCP/Azure) and containerization (Docker, Kubernetes).
- Experience with message queues/event streaming (Kafka, RabbitMQ, SQS).
- Familiarity with fintech, lending, or payments domains.
- Experience with CI/CD tools and observability stacks (logging, monitoring, alerting).
