Social Media Content Creator (Mandarin Speaker)

About the Role

We’re looking for someone who lives and breathes social media — someone who knows what people are talking about, what’s trending, and more importantly, why people care.

This role goes beyond simply posting content.

You’ll need to understand online conversations, current affairs, trending news, public sentiment and different perspectives, then turn them into content that people actually want to stop, read, watch and discuss.

If you’re the type who opens TikTok, Threads, X or Facebook and already knows what happened today before your friends do — you might fit right in.

What You’ll Do

• Create engaging content for Facebook, Instagram, Threads, TikTok and other social platforms
• Research trending topics, current affairs, social discussions and online conversations
• Turn complicated or serious topics into simple, interesting and easy-to-understand content
• Write captions, hooks, short-form scripts, headlines and social posts
• Produce and edit short-form videos, reels and visual content
• Identify trending angles before they become overused
• Understand how different audiences react to the same topic and adjust the content accordingly
• Follow breaking stories, public discussions and social sentiment to discover new content opportunities
• Brainstorm creative campaigns and content concepts with the team
• Use AI tools to speed up research, ideation, visual creation and content production
• Monitor content performance and continuously improve based on results

You don’t necessarily need years of experience.

But you should be someone who is:

• Naturally curious about what’s happening in Malaysia and around the world
• Comfortable following news, current affairs, social issues and major public conversations
• Able to look at one issue from different perspectives
• Sensitive to how wording, timing and context can change how people react to content
• Familiar with Malaysian social media culture and internet trends
• Good at spotting interesting angles that others may overlook
• Able to write in a natural, conversational style instead of sounding like a textbook
• Creative, fast-moving and willing to experiment
• Comfortable working with AI tools
• Able to work independently and meet deadlines

Responsibilities

Content Strategy & Trend Intelligence

• Monitor Threads, TikTok, Facebook, Instagram and X to spot trends, breaking stories and shifts in public sentiment.
• Convert current affairs and online conversations into clear, timely content angles that fit each platform.
• Pitch campaign ideas and recurring formats that align with audience behaviour and cultural context.

Content Production & Editing

• Write captions, hooks, short-form scripts and headlines in a natural, conversational Mandarin voice and adapt copy for other languages when needed.
• Produce and edit short videos, reels and visuals using tools like CapCut, Canva or Adobe, keeping edits tight and shareable.
• Use AI tools to accelerate research and ideation while applying human editorial judgement to final content.

Performance & Collaboration

• Publish and schedule posts, track engagement metrics and iterate on formats to improve reach and retention.
• Work closely with designers, editors and producers to move ideas from concept to live content quickly.
• Run small tests on hooks, thumbnails and formats to learn what resonates and scale winners.

Requirements

Qualifications & Experience

• Fluent Mandarin speaker able to create written and spoken social content in Mandarin.
• Comfortable communicating in English and Bahasa Malaysia; ability in multiple languages is a plus.
• No strict years required; we welcome candidates with a strong portfolio, social clips or clear examples of trend-driven work.
• Prior experience creating high-engagement or viral social content is advantageous.

Hard Skills & Knowledge

• Strong knowledge of Malaysian social media culture and how conversations evolve across Threads, TikTok, Facebook and Instagram.
• Practical skills with short-form video and visual tools such as CapCut, Canva or Adobe, and familiarity with AI content tools.
• Ability to simplify complex or serious topics into accessible, audience-first posts and short scripts.
• Basic analytics literacy to read engagement data and apply learnings to content planning.

Soft Skills & Qualities

• Genuine curiosity about Malaysia and regional news, society and current affairs.
• Able to see issues from multiple perspectives and sensitive to how wording, timing and context affect reactions.
• Fast-moving, experimental and comfortable working independently to meet tight deadlines.
• Clear, conversational writer who prefers human tone over textbook language and who spots unusual angles others miss.
