FullStack Engineer (Satellite Operation Planning)

The Data Production Department is responsible for satellite operations, image data production, and distribution of data products from our proprietary small SAR (Synthetic Aperture Radar) satellites, the “StriX” series.

Within this department, the Satellite Operation Planning Unit is in charge of creating operation plans for our satellites, generating and registering command sequences to the satellite control system based on these plans, as well as managing data necessary for smooth operations.

We are already operating several satellites in orbit, and with our fleet expected to grow rapidly, the Spacecraft Control Subsystem is more critical than ever. In this role, you will do more than just maintain the system; you will be instrumental in evolving its architecture and user experience.

As we strive to achieve greater operational efficiency, you will have the unique challenge of reducing manual intervention through better design and automation. By developing the critical interfaces that our operators use daily, you are directly shaping the “human-in-the-loop” experience.

You will be working at the core of our business, interfacing between the data platform and our mission-critical processing subsystems. You will have a direct impact on our operational capability, every dashboard, visualization tool, and interface improvement you deliver will directly contribute to the safety, speed, and usability of our satellite mission planning process.

Responsibilities

• In this position, you will join the Satellite Operation Planning Unit within the Data Production Department, which is responsible for developing and operating the Spacecraft Control Subsystem for our small SAR satellite constellation, the “StriX” series. The Spacecraft Control Subsystem is a core component of our satellite operations, and our top priority is to ensure that the system operates reliably at all times.
• As the Spacecraft Control Subsystem is an in-house system, we are not only responsible for its development but also its ongoing operation and enhancement. The Spacecraft Control Subsystem is responsible for creating operational plans for our satellites, generating command sequences, and calculating essential mission-critical data, ranging from orbit propagation and satellite telemetry to mission planning parameters, to support the daily operational workflow.
• Your primary focus will be on developing and enhancing the user-facing web interface and visualization tools used by our operators to manage satellite missions. You will work closely with our mission planning, backend development, and satellite operation teams to translate complex flight dynamics and operation planning data into intuitive dashboards and interactive tools, ensuring that our teams can understand satellite operation plans, and manage daily operations.

Requirements

• Cloud & Architecture

  • At least 3 years of experience in system development on GCP or AWS.

• Frontend Development

  • Strong experience in modern frontend development (e.g., React, Vue.js) including UI testing strategies.
  • Proficiency in TypeScript/JavaScript.
  • Proven experience building interactive data visualizations or dashboards.

• Backend Development (Golang)

  • Strong background in Go for backend services.
  • Experience building gRPC or RESTful APIs within a microservices architecture.
  • Deep understanding of concurrency patterns and software architecture (e.g., Clean Architecture).

• Integration & Collaboration

  • Experience designing and connecting full-stack applications (connecting frontend interfaces to backend data services).
  • Experience working in a development team of 3 or more members.

• Communication & On-site Presence

  • Comfortable communicating in English (written and spoken).
  • Able to commute to our Tokyo head office 2-3 days per week.

Nice to haves

While not specifically required, tell us if you have any of the following.

• Experience in UI/UX design or creating internal operational tools.
• Understanding of WebGL or charting libraries (e.g., D3.js, Deck.gl) for satellite visualization such as generating satellite ground track from its orbit parameters (e.g. Two-line element).
• Comfortable communicating in Japanese, both written and spoken.
