A leading North American renewable energy developer, owner, and operator is seeking a Senior Counsel, Procurement & Construction to join its growing legal team. This is an opportunity to support some of the largest utility-scale renewable energy projects across the U.S. and Canada, partnering closely with construction, procurement, development, finance, and executive leadership teams.
The ideal candidate will have significant experience negotiating complex construction and procurement agreements for large-scale energy and infrastructure projects, with renewable energy experience strongly preferred.

Compensation
- Base Salary (U.S.): $154,800 - $258,100
- Base Salary (Canada): $144,700 - $241,100

Position Summary
This attorney will lead the drafting, review, negotiation, and ongoing management of sophisticated commercial agreements supporting utility-scale solar, wind, battery storage, transmission, and related energy infrastructure projects.
The role serves as a strategic advisor to business stakeholders and is responsible for managing legal risks throughout the construction, procurement, operations, and financing lifecycle of renewable energy assets.
Key Responsibilities
Construction & Infrastructure Agreements
Lead negotiations and drafting for:
- EPC (Engineering, Procurement & Construction) agreements
- Balance of Plant (BoP) agreements
- Early works and pre-construction services agreements
- Transmission and substation construction agreements
- Battery storage installation agreements
- Change orders, amendments, guarantees, claims, and related project documentation
Procurement Agreements
Support major equipment procurement transactions involving:
- Solar modules
- Battery energy storage systems (BESS)
- Wind turbines
- Inverters and trackers
- Transformers and electrical equipment
- Long-lead manufacturing and supply agreements
Operations & Asset Management
Draft and negotiate:
- Long-term service agreements
- Operations & maintenance agreements
- Equipment service and maintenance contracts
- Logistics, transportation, warehousing, and storage agreements
- Software licensing and technology agreements
Strategic Legal Partnership
- Advise construction and procurement teams throughout project execution
- Support internal risk review and approval processes
- Provide legal guidance on renewable energy regulatory and compliance matters
- Assist with transaction due diligence for project financing, M&A, asset sales, and strategic transactions
- Develop and maintain contract templates and playbooks
- Deliver legal training to business stakeholders
- Manage outside counsel relationships
- Identify process improvements and risk mitigation opportunities
Qualifications
Required
- J.D., LL.B., or equivalent law degree
- Active bar membership in a U.S. or Canadian jurisdiction
- 10+ years of law firm and/or in-house legal experience
- Demonstrated expertise drafting and negotiating complex commercial agreements
- Experience managing external legal counsel
- Strong business judgment and risk assessment capabilities
Preferred
- Renewable energy industry experience
- Experience supporting utility-scale solar, wind, battery storage, transmission, or other large infrastructure projects
- Background combining both law firm and in-house experience
- Familiarity with project finance, project development, construction, and procurement matters
