TD SYNNEX is an American technology distributor formed in 2021 by merging Tech Data with SYNNEX, and it is one of the two companies through which most of the world's technology hardware and software reaches resellers and end customers. Its business is enormous in revenue and thin in margin: it buys from thousands of manufacturers, warehouses and finances the inventory, and sells onward to hundreds of thousands of resellers who lack the scale to deal with vendors directly. Headquartered in Clearwater, Florida and Fremont, California and listed on the New York Stock Exchange, it also assembles data centre systems through its Hyve division.

About the Role

We are seeking a hands-on Infrastructure Engineer to focus primarily on capacity and demand planning across data centers and public cloud. You will combine practical infrastructure experience with analytical thinking and strong internal customer relationships to translate future demand into clear capacity models, options, and timely decisions. This is a hands-on planning role grounded in how production infrastructure actually performs.

You will proactively engage engineering, application, product, and business teams, and help drive capacity and cost discussions with our existing FinOps engineers. Leadership owns approved forecasts, procurement and investment recommendations and decisions, and team backlog priorities. You provide the evidence, facilitate the planning cadence, and surface issues early.

What You'll Do

  • Build trusted relationships and proactive demand intake with internal customers, connecting delivery plans, workload changes, and business growth to infrastructure needs.
  • Develop headroom, runway, growth, and scenario models for data center and public cloud capacity, documenting assumptions, uncertainty, dependencies, and changes in demand.
  • Validate sizing against production evidence, peak demand, failover conditions, and performance requirements, rather than treating average utilization as sufficient.
  • Account for hardware lifecycle and procurement lead times, cloud quotas, regional availability, and provisioning constraints when developing timing and capacity options.
  • Run a leadership-sponsored planning cadence, maintain clear analytical inputs, and escalate approved threshold crossings for review. Thresholds trigger discussion, not automatic purchases.
  • Help drive FinOps discussions with existing FinOps engineers: facilitate consumption, demand, capacity, and cost conversations; support consumption and spend forecast scenarios; and follow up with agreed action owners without controlling their backlogs.
  • Partner on rightsizing, reclamation, total cost of ownership, workload placement, and commitment analysis. Validate potential savings against resilience and performance needs; FinOps specialists retain ownership of their practice and program.

Requirements

  • Five or more years of practical infrastructure engineering or operations experience, with the technical depth and independent judgment expected of a senior engineer. We welcome candidates whose experience has been built in infrastructure operations.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills across technical and business teams in a global environment. A minimum of four hours of daily overlap with the US Eastern business day is required.

Technical Requirements

  • Practical understanding of virtualization, compute, operating systems, storage capacity and performance (IOPS, latency, and throughput), networks, and resilience. Experience with platforms such as VMware or Nutanix and Windows or Linux is relevant; specific vendors are not required.
  • Ability to interpret observability and time-series data, assess public cloud capacity constraints, and build demand forecasts using Excel, SQL, Python, or equivalent data analysis tools.

Working experience with:

  • Sizing production workloads and validating capacity assumptions against real telemetry, workload behavior, service objectives, and operational constraints.
  • Translating cross-team demand into planning inputs and collaborating with globally distributed teams to resolve gaps, dependencies, and competing assumptions.

Must-Have Capabilities

  • Personal, practical infrastructure depth: explain how resources, bottlenecks, failure modes, and workload behavior affect usable capacity.
  • Translate customer demand into defensible forecasts and scenarios, clearly separating evidence, assumptions, uncertainty, and risks.
  • Facilitate constructive stakeholder conversations, challenge weak assumptions respectfully, and apply sound technical judgment to capacity and cost trade-offs.
  • Collaborate effectively with FinOps engineers and service owners, making cost-aware options understandable without compromising performance or resilience.

What This Role Is NOT

  • A general infrastructure delivery or ticket-queue role measured primarily by throughput, or a position intended to backfill on-call coverage. Operational experience informs the work; capacity and demand planning remain the primary focus.
  • Ownership of approved forecasts, spend approval, procurement or investment recommendations and decisions, architecture, team backlog priorities, or the FinOps program. You develop analytical inputs and options in partnership with the accountable owners.

Nice to Have

  • Prior specialist FinOps experience or certification, and experience supporting cloud cost optimization or commitment analysis. These are preferred, not required.
  • Automation that improves telemetry collection, model inputs, or repeatable analysis. Terraform, Ansible, Git, CI/CD, and Kubernetes experience can be useful, but none is mandatory.
