Senior Power BI Developer

As a Senior Power BI Developer, you will be responsible for transforming complex data into scalable, intuitive, and actionable business intelligence solutions. You will work closely with business, data, and technology teams to design and deliver enterprise-grade Power BI reports, dashboards, semantic models, and analytical solutions. The role requires strong Power BI development expertise combined with an understanding of modern cloud data platforms, data modelling, analytics, automation, and emerging AI-enabled BI capabilities.

Key

Responsibilities Own the end-to-end development of Power BI solutions, from requirements gathering and data discovery through semantic modelling, dashboard development, testing, deployment, access management, and ongoing enhancement. Translate complex business requirements into intuitive, executive-ready dashboards, reports, and analytical experiences. Design and maintain scalable Power BI semantic models, including star schemas, relationships, hierarchies, measures, calculated columns, and business metrics. Develop complex and optimized DAX measures and calculations to support business and analytical requirements. Work with SQL, Azure, Databricks, and enterprise data platforms to consume and analyse curated data. Implement and maintain Row-Level Security (RLS), workspace security, app access, data permissions, and governance controls. Apply Power BI development standards covering naming conventions, reusable components, data modelling, UX, accessibility, performance, and governance. Develop and support Import, DirectQuery, and Composite data models where appropriate. Optimize Power BI reports and semantic models to ensure scalability, reliability, and strong performance. Support controlled deployment and release practices for Power BI solutions across development, test, and production environments.

• Support UAT, test case preparation, report validation, performance testing, regression testing, and release sign-off to ensure Power BI solutions are accurate, stable, and production-ready. Work with stakeholders to define and maintain business KPIs, metrics, definitions, and analytical requirements.
• Maintain clear technical documentation, KPI definitions, data dictionaries, report inventories, and handover documentation to support governance, continuity, and long-term maintainability. Explore and implement Power BI Copilot, AI-assisted analytics, natural-language querying, automated insights, and other emerging BI capabilities where relevant. Identify opportunities to automate manual reporting processes and improve the scalability and reliability of BI solutions. Requirements 5-7+ years of hands-on Power BI development experience in enterprise or project-based environments. Strong expertise in: Power BI Desktop and Power BI Service DAX, SQL Data modelling and semantic modelling Dashboard and data visualization design Strong understanding of dimensional modelling, star schemas, fact and dimension tables, relationships, and analytical data structures. Experience implementing Row-Level Security (RLS) and enterprise access/security models. Strong understanding of Power BI performance optimization and best practices for building scalable reports and semantic models. Experience working with Azure cloud data platforms. Working knowledge of Databricks / Azure Databricks and modern data platforms. Strong SQL skills and experience working with large and complex datasets. Understanding of BI governance, deployment, and development standards. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to translate business questions into meaningful analytical solutions. Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills.
• Domain experience in customer analytics, loyalty, retail, campaign performance, CRM, digital products, or executive KPI reporting will be advantageous. Modern / Future-Focused Skills Experience or exposure to the following will be highly advantageous: Power BI Copilot and AI-assisted BI Natural-language analytics and conversational BI AI-generated insights and automated narratives Generative AI / LLM concepts and prompt engineering
• Experience integrating Power BI with Python, R, Azure ML, or advanced analytics outputs to enable richer analytical insights where relevant.

Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or a related discipline. Microsoft Power BI certification is preferred. Additional Azure, Databricks, Microsoft Fabric, or data analytics certifications are advantageous. Experience with Tableau, Alteryx, or other BI/analytics platforms is advantageous.
