Reporting to the Senior Manager of New Product Introduction (NPI), the NPI Mechanical Engineer is responsible for the design, implementation, and sustainment of cable systems, product installations, and manufacturing-ready solutions supporting both new product development and sustaining programs.

Serving as the primary engineering owner for cable assemblies, harness installations, and customer-specific interconnect solutions, this role ensures products are successfully integrated, documented, tested, and transitioned into production. The position works closely with Design Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Quality, Supply Chain, Service, and Program Management to support product launches, improve manufacturability, and resolve technical challenges throughout the product lifecycle.

In addition to cable and installation engineering, the role supports mechanical design, fixture and tooling development, product testing and validation, manufacturing process improvements, product transfers, and configuration management activities, including Engineering Change Orders (ECOs), drawing updates, and bill of material maintenance. The ideal candidate combines strong mechanical engineering fundamentals with hands-on product integration experience and a practical understanding of manufacturing and NPI environments.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Lead the design, development, and implementation of cable assemblies, harnesses, and installation solutions supporting new product introduction and sustaining engineering programs.
  • Serve as the technical owner for cable system architecture, customer-specific interconnect solutions, and product integration activities throughout the product lifecycle.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, Supply Chain, Service, and Program Management to ensure successful product launches, production readiness, and ongoing product support.
  • Design and develop mechanical components, fixtures, tooling, assembly aids, and installation hardware that improve manufacturability, quality, and operational efficiency.
  • Plan, execute, and support product verification, validation, qualification, and production testing activities, including analysis of test results and implementation of design improvements.
  • Drive engineering change implementation, configuration management, drawing revisions, and bill of material (BOM) updates to maintain product integrity and compliance.
  • Lead or support manufacturing readiness activities, product transfers, root cause investigations, process improvements, cost-reduction initiatives, and hands-on integration and production support.

Job Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related engineering discipline; equivalent combination of education and relevant experience may be considered.
  • 5+ years of experience supporting product development, manufacturing, systems integration, sustaining engineering, or related engineering functions.
  • Experience with cable assemblies, harnesses, electromechanical systems, or product integration activities preferred.
  • Proficiency with 3D CAD and 2D drafting tools (SolidWorks preferred; AutoCAD experience a plus).
  • Working knowledge of GD&T, engineering drawings, and mechanical design principles.
  • Experience supporting Engineering Change Orders (ECOs), drawing revisions, bill of material (BOM) management, and configuration control processes.
  • Familiarity with product validation, troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and corrective action methodologies.
  • Experience developing fixtures, tooling, assembly aids, or manufacturing process improvements preferred.
  • Strong verbal, written, and presentation skills with the ability to effectively communicate across technical and non-technical teams.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and collaborate in a fast-paced cross-functional environment.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and engineering/business systems.
  • Experience with PLM, ERP, Jira, Agile, or project management tools preferred.
  • Experience in an aerospace, defense, or AS9100-regulated manufacturing environment preferred.

Applicants must be either a U.S. citizen, U.S. national, legal permanent resident, asylee, refugee or must be eligible to apply for and obtain the appropriate export control license from the U.S. Departments of State or Commerce.
