Responsibilities As a Technical Documentation Associate, you will work at the heart of the engineering team to create and manage critical technical documents. You will: Collaborate with Experts: Work directly with avionics, flight controls, and systems engineers to gather information and deeply understand the systems you are documenting. Author Key Documents: Write, edit, format, and maintain a wide range of technical documentation, including: Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for lab equipment and test setups. User Manuals and guides for proprietary software and hardware. Formal Test Procedures for System Integration Lab (SIL), ground, and flight testing. Detailed Test Reports summarizing results and findings. System Description Documents and technical specifications. Ensure Consistency and Quality: Enforce documentation standards, templates, and style guides across all materials to ensure a consistent and professional output. Support Certification: Assist in the preparation, review, and organization of comprehensive documentation packages required for civil aerospace certification reviews. Manage Document Control: Implement and manage a robust document control system, ensuring proper versioning, review cycles, and archival of all technical documents.
Requirements Required Qualifications (Must-Haves) Experience: 2+ years of professional experience as a technical writer, technical editor, or documentation specialist in an engineering or software development environment.
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Technical Communication, English, Engineering, or a related field. Exceptional Writing Skills: A superior command of the English language, with impeccable grammar, spelling, and a talent for explaining complex topics in a clear and concise manner. Technical Aptitude: A proven ability to quickly grasp complex technical concepts related to software, electronics, and integrated systems. Tool Proficiency: High proficiency with industry-standard documentation tools, including the Microsoft Office Suite (especially Word, Excel, and Visio). Attention to Detail: A meticulous and organized approach, with a keen eye for detail in formatting, consistency, and accuracy. Preferred Qualifications (Good-to-Haves) Aviation/Aerospace Experience: Direct experience creating technical documentation in the aviation or aerospace industry is a significant advantage. Knowledge of Standards: Familiarity with aerospace documentation principles and specifications such as ASD-STE100 (Simplified Technical English), S1000D, or ATA iSpec 2200. Certification Documentation: Experience contributing to documentation packages for certification to standards like DO-178C, DO-254, or ARP4754A is a major plus. Relevant Experience: Experience managing engineering documents within a Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) system (like Teamcenter or Windchill) or a dedicated Engineering Document Management System (EDMS). Advanced Authoring Tools: Experience with dedicated technical authoring tools like Adobe FrameMaker, MadCap Flare, or similar. Collaboration Tools: Experience using collaborative platforms like Confluence and Jira for documentation management. Graphics Skills: Ability to create or edit technical illustrations, diagrams, and flowcharts to supplement written content.
