The Nuclear Company is a US nuclear energy startup that aims to deploy fleets of large reactors through a design-once, build-many model, supported by its own AI software platform, the Nuclear Operating System, which integrates project data. It combines new-build development with a services business that supplies travelling technicians for refuelling outages at existing plants such as the Oconee station in South Carolina. It hires siting and sales engineers, reactor services, bolting and long handle tool technicians, electricians and instrument fitters, crane operators, accounting leaders, legal counsel and software interns.
Backed by Eclipse

The Nuclear Company  is the fastest-growing AI-enabled startup in nuclear energy, bringing together experienced nuclear professionals, technologists, engineers, and builders to deliver the next generation of nuclear power. Through our design-once, build-many approach, we are creating a repeatable model for deploying nuclear fleets-combining the industry’s highest standards for safety, quality, and regulatory rigor with the speed and innovation required to meet the world’s growing energy needs.

We are building the future of nuclear work.  Every employee is expected to use AI, technology, and our Nuclear Operating System (NOS) to strengthen engineering and operational decision-making, improve quality, eliminate inefficiencies, and accelerate execution without compromising safety. Our nuclear expertise shapes the continued evolution of NOS, enabling us to capture institutional knowledge, standardize best practices, and deliver complex projects with greater consistency and certainty.

We hire people who believe nuclear energy is essential to human progress.  Our team is made up of mission-driven experts who respect the rigor of the industry while challenging outdated ways of working. They bring deep technical judgment, intellectual curiosity, high agency, and the humility to learn from others. Our values-Transparency, Responsibility, Unity, Scrappy, and Tenacity -guide how we hire, collaborate, and make decisions. Together, they form TRUST, the foundation of our safety culture and our commitment to intellectual honesty, personal accountability, open communication, and operational excellence.

About the role

The Nuclear Company is seeking a Construction Manager to provide field leadership and day-to-day oversight for major nuclear construction projects, including the Brookfield JV's anchor project at VCS Units 2 and 3. Reporting to the Senior Director of Construction, this role serves as a trusted partner and extension of construction leadership, ensuring work is executed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with project requirements, contractual obligations, and quality standards.

This is a highly collaborative role for an experienced construction professional who enjoys being in the field, solving problems, building relationships, and helping teams succeed. You will coordinate contractors, support project execution, monitor subcontractor performance, and serve as a key liaison between construction management, engineering, project controls, quality, and craft teams.

The ideal candidate combines strong technical construction experience with exceptional interpersonal skills. We're looking for someone who leads through partnership, develops trust quickly, coaches others, communicates with empathy, and creates an environment where people can perform at their best.

Responsibilities

Construction Execution

  • Provide daily field oversight of construction activities across assigned project scopes.
  • Monitor contractor and subcontractor performance to ensure work is completed safely, on schedule, within budget, and in accordance with project specifications.
  • Identify execution risks early and work collaboratively with project teams to develop practical solutions.
  • Coordinate construction activities with integrated project teams.
  • Support startup planning, turnover activities, punch list completion, and project closeout.

Subcontract & Contract Management

  • Provide oversight of subcontractor execution, ensuring compliance with Statements of Work (SOW), contracts, technical requirements, and project expectations.
  • Monitor contractor productivity, staffing, schedule performance, and quality of work.
  • Participate in scope reviews, change management, field issue resolution, and contractor coordination meetings.
  • Support contract administration, progress verification, and field acceptance activities.
  • Work closely with Project Controls to monitor integrated schedule, cost, earned progress, and execution metrics.
  • Escalate execution risks, contractual issues, or performance concerns as appropriate.
  • Facilitate issue resolution and cross-functional communication.

Field Leadership

  • Build strong working relationships across contractors, craft personnel, engineers, inspectors, and project leadership.
  • Foster a collaborative, respectful, and accountable construction culture.
  • Champion a strong nuclear safety culture and reinforce Human Performance principles.
  • Mentor junior construction professionals and support their technical and professional development.
  • Help resolve field conflicts through communication, collaboration, and practical problem-solving.
  • Promote continuous improvement across construction execution and work processes.

Safety & Quality

  • Champion an uncompromising safety culture and reinforce safe work practices at every level.
  • Ensure compliance with quality requirements, procedures, regulatory expectations, and project standards.
  • Participate in field walkdowns, observations, inspections, readiness reviews, and corrective action activities.
  • Support nuclear quality assurance expectations and construction documentation requirements.

AI & Technology

  • Leverage AI-powered tools and digital construction platforms to improve field reporting, documentation, schedule management, issue tracking, constraint mitigation and contractor coordination.
  • Utilize construction analytics and digital dashboards to proactively identify execution trends, risks, and opportunities for improved performance.
  • Support the continued evolution of The Nuclear Company's Nuclear Operating System (NOS) through automation and technology-enabled construction practices.

Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or related technical discipline (or equivalent experience).
  • 15+ years of construction, field engineering, project management, or construction oversight experience on large industrial, energy, infrastructure, or nuclear projects.
  • Demonstrated experience overseeing subcontractors and managing field execution.
  • Experience interpreting and administering Statements of Work (SOWs), technical specifications, construction packages, and contract requirements.
  • Strong understanding of construction sequencing, scheduling, and project execution.
  • Experience coordinating multiple contractors across complex project environments.
  • Working knowledge of project controls, scheduling, cost management, or construction reporting.
  • Excellent leadership, communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Ability to travel extensively to project sites.

Preferred Experience

  • Nuclear industry construction experience strongly preferred.
  • Experience serving as a Subcontract Technical Representative (STR), Contract Technical Representative (CTR), Owner's Representative, Resident Engineer, or similar field oversight role.
  • Experience supporting EPC contractors or owner-led construction organizations.
  • Familiarity with ASME Section III, NQA-1, 10 CFR 50 Appendix B, and related nuclear quality standards.
  • Knowledge of NRC regulations and licensing requirements.
  • Experience with Primavera P6, Microsoft Project, Procore, or similar construction management platforms.
  • PMP certification or equivalent project management credentials.
