Trafigura is an employee-owned commodity trading group, legally based in Singapore, that sources, stores, transports and trades crude oil, refined products, natural gas, power, metals and minerals. Founded in 1993, it is one of the largest independent commodity traders, with major offices in Geneva and Houston and port terminals, mining and logistics operations in Latin America, Africa and elsewhere. It hires traders and analysts, crude oil schedulers, freight and research analysts, trade finance and treasury staff, IT auditors and AI engineers, and terminal engineers and HSE coordinators in Argentina and Peru.

Main purpose

Reporting to the Oil Operations Team Lead and based in Uruguay, this role will manage operations for North America. Its main purpose is to manage end-to-end physical oil product logistics and provide real-time desk support to traders. The role oversees post-trade execution to ensure contract compliance and uses operational insights to support commercial decision-making.

Key responsibilities

  • Manage the end-to-end execution of physical refined products moving across pipeline networks, storage terminals, trucks and waterborne vessels.
  • Liaise with counterparties’ contractual operations teams and third-party service providers on post-deal activities.
  • Work with the trading desk to optimise logistics, maximise P&L and mitigate the company’s exposure.
  • Review trade recaps and contracts to verify operational feasibility and alignment with commercial terms.
  • Build and maintain strong working relationships with pipeline operators, terminal schedulers, carrier representatives and counterparty operations teams.
  • Approve and control associated costs.
  • Ensure ETRM systems are accurate and kept up to date at all times.
  • Coordinate with internal departments such as Risk, Finance and Accounting.

Required qualifications

  • Preferably 2 years’ experience in similar positions (trading or logistics companies).
  • University degree in Foreign Trade, International Relations, Business Administration, Engineering or a related field.
  • Strong command of English, both oral and written (upper-intermediate level, B2 or equivalent).

Attributes for success

  • Willingness to learn.
  • Adaptability and efficient problem-solving skills.
  • Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Strong sense of ownership.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.
  • Commercial mindset, with the ability to identify cost-saving opportunities, optimise supply chain logistics and proactively share market and operational insights with traders.
