YOUR MISSION
At True Anomaly, we’re building the next generation of space defense. As we scale, the foundational cloud infrastructure that everything else is built on, including how we run compute, connect our environments, and ship software, becomes one of the most important force multipliers in the company. We are investing in platform engineering as a core operating capability, and this role exists to make that investment real.
As a Staff Infrastructure Platform Engineer, you will be one of the first hires building the cloud infrastructure, tooling, and standards that every engineering team across the company depends on. You will design and ship the foundational infrastructure that the rest of the company relies on, including multi-cloud environments, the connectivity between them, and the paved-road patterns for how software gets built, deployed, and operated. Your work will let engineering teams across True Anomaly move faster and more safely.
The scope is broad by design. Your work will range from designing cross-cloud networking between AWS and Azure, to authoring reusable infrastructure-as-code that other teams build on, to establishing CI/CD and deployment standards that scale across the whole enterprise. You will own platform-level technical decisions about cloud architecture, tooling, and build-vs-buy, and you will be the technical anchor for the first infrastructure engineers on the team, leading, coaching, and mentoring them as we grow the function.
The platform engineering org, reporting to the Chief Security Officer, works across the enterprise, from engineering and product to marketing and finance. You will have meaningful autonomy, visibility to executive leadership, and the opportunity to shape how a fast-growing defense technology company builds and operates its infrastructure.
As a technical leader on the team, you’ll be expected to bring a breadth of cross-discipline experience from areas like software engineering, cloud infrastructure, DevOps, SRE, systems design, and technical decision-making. You will partner with senior leaders across the organization, exercise cross-organizational influence to align teams on shared standards, and work through significant ambiguity to establish technical requirements and deliver results. You will coach and mentor a team through the delivery of complex technical projects, and set the technical bar for how infrastructure is built at True Anomaly.
RESPONSIBILITIES
* Lead the design of foundational cloud infrastructure that will be rolled out across the enterprise. Work with stakeholders across engineering and business functions to gather requirements, evaluate technical tradeoffs, and reach consensus.
* Design and operate the foundational multi-cloud environment, including the account structure, guardrails, and shared networking and identity that every team builds on top of.
* Own the self-service experience for how engineering teams provision accounts, bootstrap resources, and deploy onto paved roads, so teams can move quickly while staying inside a governed, secure foundation.
* Author and maintain reusable infrastructure-as-code (e.g. Terraform) that other teams build on, and establish the standards and paved-road patterns for how it is used.
* Establish CI/CD, testing, and deployment standards that scale across the enterprise rather than any single product, and drive their adoption across teams.
* Build the self-service tooling and paved-road patterns that let engineering teams provision, deploy, and operate their own systems without depending on a central queue.
* Own technical evaluation and selection of cloud services, infrastructure tooling, and platforms, making build-vs-buy decisions based on capability, compliance requirements, and speed to value.
* Act as the technical anchor for the first infrastructure engineers on the team - leading, coaching, and mentoring them and setting a high engineering bar.
* Partner with engineering, security, and IT teams to ensure infrastructure meets government security and compliance requirements across data classification levels.
* Leverage AI-assisted development tools to accelerate delivery, and help the team adopt them as a force multiplier.
QUALIFICATIONS
* Typically 8+ years of software engineering, DevOps, SRE, or cloud engineering experience with a track record of technical leadership, including owning roadmaps, making architectural decisions, and mentoring engineers.
* Strong general software background, with real experience building, deploying, and operating production applications on cloud. You understand a professional software development lifecycle end to end, including how applications are built, tested, released, and run in production. You understand what constitutes maintainable code.
* Deep experience designing and operating cloud infrastructure (AWS, Azure, or GCP), including deploying and running production workloads at scale.
* Strong experience with infrastructure-as-code (e.g. Terraform), authoring and maintaining reusable modules and infrastructure that other engineers depend on and build on top of.
* Experience building and setting modern CI/CD, continuous testing, and deployment standards, and driving their adoption across multiple teams or products.
* Demonstrated ability to work across a broad technical surface area, context-switching between infrastructure, application development, and platform architecture, and to work across teams to understand requirements and seek consensus.
* Recognized depth in one or more of: CI/CD and build/release tooling, cloud networking, infrastructure-as-code at scale, or developer platforms and shared engineering tooling, with working fluency across the rest.
* Working knowledge of networking fundamentals (e.g. HTTP, ports, DNS, firewalls, security groups, cloud networking primitives) sufficient to design and troubleshoot connectivity between environments.
* Experience using AI-powered development tools to deliver production code and automate routine work, and the ability to leverage AI as a force multiplier for yourself and your team.
* Ability to exercise cross-organizational influence and to coach and mentor a team through the delivery of complex technical projects.
* Self-directed and comfortable operating with high autonomy in a fast-paced environment where priorities shift and the playbook is being written in real time. Able to work through significant ambiguity to define requirements and deliver results.
* US Citizenship and ability to obtain and maintain a Top-Secret security clearance.
PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
* Enterprise experience building and operating infrastructure at scale in a high-growth or large technology organization.
* Experience with containers and orchestration, service mesh, and artifact/registry management.
* Experience designing and improving the developer experience, or building and maintaining the core developer processes and automation that engineering teams rely on.
* Familiarity with government cloud environments (AWS GovCloud, Azure Government) and authorization frameworks (FedRAMP, NIST 800-53, IL4/IL5).
* Experience deploying infrastructure in government, defense, or regulated environments with security and compliance constraints.
* Experience designing or maintaining an enterprise network.
* Experience with observability, reliability engineering, IAM/secrets management.
* Background in developer tooling, platform engineering, or internal platform teams at high-growth technology companies.
* Active U.S. Secret or Top-Secret security clearance.
COMPENSATION
Base Salary: Denver - $205,000 - $295,000, Long Beach - $215,000 - $310,000

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Work Location- Long Beach, CA, or Denver, CO. While we observe a hybrid work environment, you will need to be onsite as the business needs require. Onsite requirements are subject to change, particularly when work on classified systems is required. On an average week, you can expect to spend at least 3 days per week in office.
