AU Assistant Accountant - Work from Home

Position Description

Responsible for the day-to-day financial operations across multiple entities, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, banking, reconciliations, compliance preparation, and month-end reporting. The role supports the Financial Controller by ensuring accurate records, timely processing, and the preparation of month-end schedules ready for review.

Key Responsibilities

Accounts Payable & Receivable

• Manage end-to-end supplier invoice processing and PO matching.
• Prepare weekly payment runs and reconcile supplier statements.
• Resolve supplier queries.
• Process customer invoicing and receipt allocations.
• Manage debtor collections, aged receivables reporting, and escalation of overdue accounts.

Payroll

• Process payroll across multiple entities
• Administer leave, superannuation, payroll reconciliations, STP preparation, and payroll reporting.
• Banking & Cash Management
• Perform daily bank and credit card reconciliations.
• Allocate cash receipts and code expenses.
• Investigate and resolve reconciling items.

Month-End & Financial Reporting

• Prepare month-end schedules and supporting workpapers, including:
• Bank, credit card, AR, AP, payroll, and GST reconciliations.
• Intercompany, inventory, and balance sheet reconciliations.
• Fixed asset register updates.
• Accruals and prepayments.
• Month-end checklist completion. All schedules must be completed and submitted ready for Financial Controller review.

Compliance Support

• Prepare documentation supporting for BAS and IAS, Payroll Tax, Superannuation, WorkCover, Fringe Benefits Tax (FBT).

Finance Administration

• Maintain the finance inbox, registers, and accounting documentation.
• Support process improvements and finance procedure documentation.
• Ensure financial records remain accurate, complete, and up to date.

Requirements

Essential

• Minimum 3-5+ years' experience in a senior accounting, finance, or bookkeeping role.
• Advanced Xero and Excel skills.
• Experience managing multi-entity accounting and foreign currency transactions.
• Strong understanding of Australian GST and payroll legislation.
• Proven reconciliation experience with high accuracy and attention to detail.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Highly organised, detail-oriented, and self-motivated.

Desirable

• Experience in manufacturing environments.
• Knowledge of inventory accounting and job costing.
• Multi-entity payroll experience.
• Experience supporting CFOs, Finance Managers, or Financial Controllers in fast-paced businesses.
