Uber is an American mobility and delivery company founded in San Francisco in 2009 that connects independent drivers and couriers with riders and customers through its apps. It operates ride hailing in thousands of cities, a food and grocery delivery business built on the same courier network, a freight brokerage matching shippers with carriers, and an advertising business that sells placement inside those apps. Listed on the New York Stock Exchange since 2019, the company reached sustained profitability in the mid 2020s and now partners with autonomous vehicle developers rather than building self-driving technology itself.

About the role and team

Community Operations at Uber is where real people solve real problems in real time. The pace is intense, the stakes are high, and the answers aren’t always clear. You’ll need to stay calm under pressure, balance empathy with action, and make decisions that move quickly - and with care. If you’re sharp, steady, and motivated by meaningful service at scale, this is where you’ll grow.

As a People Operations Specialist you will be the heartbeat of the employee experience, managing the essential administrative lifecycle from onboarding to offboarding. You will navigate complex labor laws and internal systems to ensure our teams are supported, acting as the critical link between HR functional areas and the people who keep Uber moving. This role is for someone who thrives in the messiness of high-growth environments and finds purpose in turning ambiguity into reliable, scalable support.

About the role:

We are seeking a detail-oriented People Ops Specialist. In this role, you aren’t just moving data; you are ensuring the integrity of the information that powers our global workforce. You will manage complex data escalations, lead regional data audits, and ensure that every employee lifecycle event-from onboarding to job changes -is executed with precision. You will be the functional expert for our HRIS, driving seamless employee experiences.

Responsibilities

  • Own and resolve Tier 2 escalations, providing clear, empathetic, and policy-aligned guidance that goes beyond a standard script.
  • Execute complex transactions and lifecycle events-such as new hires, job changes, or terminations ensuring our system of record remains a system of trust.
  • Act as a critical liaison between employees, vendors, and COEs to resolve intricate inquiries and ensure service consistency across the region.
  • Partner to operationalize new programs and participate in UAT for system enhancements, ensuring regional nuances are built into global designs.
  • Research and resolve data discrepancies, collaborating with Payroll, IT, and other People Ops teams.
  • Collaborate to refine Tier 0 (Self-Service) and Tier 1 knowledge content, utilizing your expertise to help AI solve more problems before they reach your desk.
  • Analyze case trends in ServiceNow and HRIS data to identify recurring friction points and recommend scalable, predictive solutions to improve the employee experience.
  • Monitor data quality through regular audits, identify issues, and recommend process improvements.
  • Assist in preparing reports or dashboards for People Ops leadership as needed.
  • Support User Acceptance Testing (UAT) for system enhancements and new functionality.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience.
  • Minimum 2 years of HR experience, with direct experience in HR data management.

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience in a shared services or centralized HR environment preferred.
  • Familiarity with HRIS systems (Workday, Oracle, or similar) and transaction processing.
  • Strong attention to detail with proven data entry accuracy and compliance awareness.
  • Ability to identify root causes and suggest process fixes rather than just treating symptoms.
  • Ability to manage confidential information with discretion.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
