Founded in 1944, it works for utilities, renewable developers and public agencies from offices across the United States, including a large office in Greenwood Village, Colorado. It hires transmission and distribution engineers, substation electrical engineers, civil engineers, project managers and market directors.

The Opportunity

Ulteig and its affiliated companies are hiring Solar Design Engineer candidates to support the design of utility-scale solar projects nationwide. This role will be a strategic contributor to the growth of our Renewables Lifeline Sector®. Qualified candidates will be considered to work remotely from any location in the US, or, if the candidate chooses, may work from any of Ulteig’s existing office locations.

**Please note that resumes must be submitted in English for the application to be considered**

What You’ll Do

  • Work with internal multi-disciplinary teams and clients to develop Solar PV design/construction packages including solar array layouts, electrical one-lines, collection systems, collection system studies, and equipment installation details for Utility Scale Solar PV systems (50-500MW+).
  • Turn initial high-level designs into optimized designs ready for construction. Leverage internal tools and external software to aid in the design process.
  • Contribute to continual development of internal solar engineering standards, toolsets, and work processes.
  • Partake in site visits and conferences to meet client requests and strengthen relationships.
  • Support development of early-stage projects with conceptual designs and material take-offs.
  • Additional duties may include tasks beyond what is listed, such as special projects, assisting colleagues, or new initiatives.
  • A willingness to adapt to changing priorities and support team efforts enhances collaboration and growth opportunities.

What We Expect from You

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering from an accredited program.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in the solar industry.
  • Experience with various solar design software programs (CYMCAP, PVFARM, SAM, PVsyst, etc.).
  • Experience in estimating or designing electrical systems is required.
  • Bring a commitment to continuous learning and the ability to understand and apply new technologies as the renewable energy industry evolves.
  • Knowledge of photovoltaic systems, NEC requirements, and construction practices is strongly preferred.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, strong interpersonal skills, and the ability to clearly and effectively present complex information to all levels of employees, management, and clients.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work in a hybrid schedule: 3 days in the office, 2 days from home.
  • Must possess strong verbal and written English communication skills (CEFR level B2-C1). You should be comfortable articulating complex ideas and collaborating effectively within a global professional environment.
  • Must have authorization to work legally in Costa Rica for any employer.
