Position Summary
The Principal Linux Systems Support role provides ongoing Systems Administration support, including installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of hardware, software, applications, and connectivity components for Linux environments across multiple locations. This role provides technical support and adviseson the use of programming tools, database systems, and networks.
Operational responsibilities include remediation of daily incident tickets, system compliance, system run enhancement, testing, staging, policy/procedure enhancement, client contact coordination, and operational recommendations to address availability and reliability issues on Linux systems, while playing a lead role in shaping Linux systems strategy across the company.
This role splits its time between the Business Availability team - designing highly availableLinux and Unix infrastructure and reducing reliance on planned maintenance windows - and the Disaster Recovery practice, ensuring Linux solutions are validatedagainst recovery objectives.
Core Responsibilities
Leadership & Strategy
Plays a lead role in Systems Administration across the account, building on responsibilities such as:
“May serve as team lead, allocating work assignments, ensuring work-load balance across the team and providing technical and procedural guidance for less experienced team members.”
Ensuresalignment of systems design and strategy with corporate business requirements and objectives.
Business & Systems Alignment
Applies extensive knowledge of the business availability in systems design, development, and support.
Translates long-term business requirements into systems and infrastructure design.
Business Availability Responsibilities
Assesses and documentscurrent-state Linux and Unix solution architectures.
Designs and recommends high-availability Linux solutions, including Red Hat clustering, KVM, and AIX/Unix environments, aligned with business and technical requirements.
Develops migration strategies, implementationroadmaps, and associated bills of materials for Linux and Unix environments.
Ensures proposed Linux solutions can be effectively integrated into the Disaster Recovery practice.
Collaborates with account teams to gather operational knowledge and support transition planning.
Disaster Recovery Responsibilities
Participates in design reviews to validatethat Linux solutions can meet recovery objectives.
Reviews and maintainsDR documentation, runbooks, and supporting artifacts for Linux systems.
Supports coordination and execution of planned DR testing activities.
Monitors and evaluates Linux DR infrastructure capacity across on-premises and cloud environments.
You will be successful in this role if you have:
BA/BS degree and 8+ years of relevant experience OR equivalent combination of education and experience.
Master's degree preferred.
Expert-level expertisein Linux systems administration and enterprise infrastructure design.
Proven ability to lead technical teams and advise across the organization on complex, business-critical issues.
Experience with Red Hat Linux, including KVM and clustering.
Experience with AIX.
Familiarity with Unix.
Familiarity with VMware.
Familiarity with disaster recovery and high availability in cloud environments - Oracle OCI and Microsoft Azure.
