VERSANT is a leading force in news, sports and entertainment - home to iconic and trusted brands that inspire, inform, and delight audiences. Our unique combination of content, technology and services enriches the cultural fabric, igniting passions, sparking conversations, and connecting people to what they love most.

As an independent, publicly traded company, VERSANT brings together powerhouse cable networks - including USA Network, CNBC, MS NOW (formerly MSNBC), Oxygen, E!, SYFY, and Golf Channel - with dynamic digital and direct-to-consumer brands such as Fandango, Rotten Tomatoes, GolfNow, GolfPass, and SportsEngine. Together, these businesses reflect our commitment to delivering exceptional experiences across every screen and service.

VERSANT is an industry-changing media company fueled by innovation and an entrepreneurial spirit. With a strong foundation and a forward-looking vision, VERSANT empowers creativity, embraces change, and drives connection in an ever-evolving world.

The Opportunity:

As a Senior Data Engineer, you will help lead the design, evolution, and reliability of the data platform supporting GolfNow and the broader sports technology ecosystem. You will shape data architecture, influence technical direction, and build scalable, high-quality data systems that enable analytics, reporting, and product innovation.

Working at the intersection of sports, media, and technology, you will partner closely with engineering, product, analytics, and business stakeholders to translate complex needs into durable data solutions. You will also help establish engineering standards, improve data quality and governance, and mentor other engineers across the team.

Why This Role Matters:

Data is foundational to how we understand our customers, improve our products, and make informed business decisions. In this role, you will help turn data into a strategic asset by strengthening the platforms and practices that support decision-making, unlock new product capabilities, and serve athletes, fans, partners, and internal teams at scale.

This is a fully remote role, with opportunities for intentional in-person collaboration approximately 10% of the time to support team connection, planning, and key initiatives.

What You’ll Do:

  • Architect, build, and evolve scalable data pipelines and platforms across AWS and Microsoft technology ecosystems.
  • Design data models, warehouse structures, and orchestration patterns that support analytics, product insights, reporting, and business intelligence.
  • Establish and continuously improve standards for data quality, governance, reliability, observability, performance, and scalability across the data lifecycle.
  • Partner with engineering, product, analytics, and business stakeholders to define data strategy and translate complex business requirements into effective technical solutions.
  • Mentor and guide data engineers, helping strengthen engineering practices, technical decision-making, and team capabilities.
  • Evaluate and implement new tools, frameworks, and approaches that improve the reliability, efficiency, and scalability of data operations.

What You Bring:

  • Significant experience in data engineering, including a demonstrated record of designing, building, and scaling data platforms in cloud environments; experience with AWS is strongly preferred.
  • Advanced proficiency in SQL and Python, including experience developing ETL/ELT pipelines and optimizing large-scale data systems.
  • Strong knowledge of modern data architecture, including data modeling, warehousing, orchestration, and distributed data processing concepts; experience with tools such as Airflow is valuable.
  • Hands-on experience with AWS technologies such as Glue, Lambda, and Step Functions, as well as infrastructure-as-code tools such as Terraform.
  • Proven ability to influence technical direction, evaluate architectural trade-offs, and collaborate across teams to deliver meaningful business and product outcomes.
  • Experience mentoring engineers and contributing to strong engineering standards, practices, and culture.

You will also bring Versant’s How We Do It behaviors to the way you work:

  • Trust: Take ownership of critical data systems, make sound technical decisions, and consistently deliver reliable, high-quality solutions.
  • Teamwork: Collaborate across engineering, product, analytics, and business teams to create solutions that support shared goals.
  • Transparency: Communicate clearly about technical trade-offs, risks, progress, data integrity, and decisions.
  • Agility: Adapt effectively as technologies, priorities, and business needs evolve while maintaining focus on quality and impact.
  • Entrepreneurial Spirit: Proactively identify opportunities to innovate, simplify systems, improve processes, and expand how data creates value for the business.

Bonus Points:

Experience with one or more of the following would be beneficial:

  • SSIS, PowerShell, or SSRS
  • Tableau, Power BI, or similar business intelligence tools
  • Agile development environments and collaboration tools such as Jira or Confluence

Why You’ll Love It Here:

You’ll work on high-impact data platforms at the intersection of sports, media, and technology, with the opportunity to influence data strategy and technical direction at scale. You’ll collaborate with experienced teams across disciplines, help shape how data supports products and decision-making, and contribute to an environment that values strong engineering practices, continuous improvement, and professional growth.

This role offers the flexibility of remote work while maintaining meaningful opportunities for in-person collaboration, team connection, planning, and key initiatives approximately 10% of the time.
