Vertex Technologies, a global supplier of software engineering and IT outsourcing services, is looking for an experienced Java Tech Lead / Principal Engineer to join our engineering organization.
We are looking for a strong hands-on technical leader who can take ownership of complex technical solutions, drive architectural decisions, and help engineering teams deliver reliable and scalable software. This role combines deep technical expertise with technical leadership, mentoring, and collaboration across engineering and business functions.
The ideal candidate is comfortable working with complex distributed systems, designing solutions from the architecture level down to implementation details, and guiding engineers through technical challenges while remaining actively involved in software development.
ABOUT THE PROJECTS:
You will work on complex software products and enterprise solutions across a variety of business domains, including Healthcare, Finance & Banking, Education, Logistics, Retail & E-commerce, and Telecommunications. Projects may include distributed systems, cloud-based applications, integrations, data processing solutions, and modern web applications.
As a Tech Lead / Principal Engineer, you will play a key role in defining technical approaches, designing system architecture, supporting engineering teams, and ensuring that solutions meet requirements related to scalability, maintainability, security, performance, and reliability.
You will collaborate with developers, architects, product managers, engineering managers, DevOps engineers, QA engineers, and other stakeholders to transform business requirements into well-designed technical solutions.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Lead the technical design and implementation of complex software solutions.
Design and evolve system and application architecture with scalability, reliability, security, performance, and maintainability in mind.
Make and communicate technical decisions, evaluate alternatives, and identify architectural trade-offs.
Take technical ownership of solutions throughout the full software development lifecycle, from design to production support.
Remain hands-on and contribute to implementation of technically challenging or critical components.
Identify technical risks, dependencies, architectural limitations, and opportunities for improvement.
Lead technical discussions, design reviews, and support teams in reaching effective technical decisions.
Establish and promote engineering best practices across development, testing, code quality, security, and CI/CD.
Collaborate with other Tech Leads, Principal Engineers, Architects, DevOps, QA, product, and engineering management.
Mentor engineers, support their technical growth, and help onboard new team members into the project and engineering practices.
Evaluate new technologies and contribute to technical documentation and continuous improvement of engineering practices.

Requirements
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION:6+ years of commercial software development experience, with at least 2+ years in a Principal, Lead, or Solutions Architect capacity.
Deep expertise in the Java ecosystem, modern microservice architectures, and engineering best practices for building scalable and maintainable systems.
Proven experience designing architecture for complex applications or distributed systems.
Strong understanding of architectural trade-offs, system decomposition, service boundaries, scalability, resilience, and distributed system design.
Experience designing and developing RESTful APIs, messaging, and asynchronous or event-driven integrations.
Strong experience with relational databases and understanding of transactions, indexing, performance optimization, and data consistency.
Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud Platform, or similar.
Experience with containerization and orchestration technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes, as well as modern CI/CD practices.
Good understanding of application security, authentication, authorization, observability, performance, and reliability concerns.
Strong technical English and ability to clearly communicate technical concepts, architectural decisions, and solutions to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Experience working as a Tech Lead, Lead Software Engineer, Principal Engineer, or in a similar technical leadership role.
Experience mentoring engineers of different seniority levels and supporting their technical growth.
Experience onboarding new engineers and helping them understand project architecture, technologies, and engineering practices.
Experience leading technical discussions, design reviews, and architectural initiatives across one or multiple teams.
Experience defining and improving engineering standards, development practices, and technical processes.
Openness to working with different technologies as project needs require. Experience with Kotlin, Scala, Python, or similar languages is a plus.
Experience with AI-assisted development tools (GitHub Copilot, ChatGPT, Claude, Cursor, etc.) in SDLC: code generation, debugging, testing, documentation, refactoring.
